I was apparently a lot meaner as a child, and I liked pointing out what was ugly around me. When I'd be waiting in the car with my mom, I liked to stand on the front seat, and lean back against it, with my elbows on either side of the head rest, and there would still be some room before my head would hit the ceiling, so I must have been pretty young, and I would just critique everybody who walked by. Clothes, hair, makeup, walk. Just very judgmental. My mom said it was hysterical, if a little scary, since I was usually right.
ETA: I usually keep those thoughts to myself, now.

We had to wear dresses when I was in elementary school so when we could wear pants to middle school it rocked! I distinctly remember wearing brown cords with a tapestry belt, brown plaid shirt and earth shoes and being so, so in fashion.

These were the ones with the b&w or brown& white rag socks sewn in. They weren't bad, I just remember them clearly.
Multi-tier dresses with a tank top top made out of tshirt material.
In high school, I had this one weird outfit. Green poetryish cotton blouse with cutout teeny embroidery on the chest area, long sleeve, lots of tucks worn. Past my hips. A pair of longish jean shorts, dark green tights and my docs. My long & heavy silver chandelier earrings from Russia. It was so comfy and suited me at the time.

Some day, oh some day, I will be able to listen to Alice n' Chains again without grinding my teeth. Some day.
However, the nice thing about the grunge trend was that all the thrift stores were FILLED with cute vintage velvet things that hardly anyone else wanted. I miss that.
