Well, if the World does believe that the Papacy is ending, and the World is preparing for that, then the headline is correct.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I was thinking about posting that myself, Nutty.
Well, American Heritage has one definition as "The period of time during which a pope is in office." Like the Presidency.
But you wouldn't describe the death in office of a president as "The End of the Presidency," generally. It may not be wrong but it makes them sound a bit hysterical.
I just need to share some of the rules for the Kinetic Sculpture Race here at the end of the month:
Favorites:
Each Sculpture must carry at all times 1 comforting item of psychological luxury heretofore referred to as the "Homemade Sock Creature" (HSC). Homemade Sock Creature must be made in a home, from a not-too-recently-worn sock from the home, and resemble a creature homemade from a sock. (penalty: 1 hour)
If things are not going your way, take it personally--they are picking on you. Pilots, Pit Crews, and Officials will not involve themselves in incidents of kicking, biting, scratching, or fisticuffs. Anyone engaging in such outrageous activities is not honored, but disgraced. (penalty: 1 hour or Banishment)
Because my NPR station is having a pledge drive, while I was out running errands I switched over to the news radio station that does the Mariners to see if there was a spring training game. There wasn't, but they promised updates on the pope's condition at the top of the hour, 20 minutes after the hour, etc. Just like weather and traffic...
I just watched next week's House.
Oh, the exquisite angst.
She probably doesn't eat the whole baby.
Just the toes.Mostly the toes, but if I am closely related to the baby, I also eat their cheeks.
I think the NYT could have avoided that if they had "this papacy" instead of "the", but I can seldom post without making an error, so I won't pick on them.

But using the definition that "the papacy" describes a particular reign or administration of a certain pope, the end of it is always by death. Popes don't leave office the same way as presidents.
ETA: I mean, I don't see anything wrong with a headline at the end of an administration saying, "The End of a Presidency."
I just want to tell Jilli that I'm completely addicted to the doll maker site. Here's my latest creation (the GF): [link]
