Angelus ,'Damage'
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Going for the threepeat! Gwen Stacy cast for Spider-Man 3
I fall asleep damn near every time I see something at Film Forum, completely irrespective of the movie being shown.
That's... so weird. I guess your theory makes some sense.
I've seen, um, two movies at Film Forum. The Seven Samurai and that movie where Michelle Trachtenberg played a goth girl best friend to the sexually abused gay guy. I should see something happy there at some point.
ETA: Oh, that Spider-man article reminds me that I saw a trailer for "Lady in the Water" in front of Brokeback Mountain and it was so poorly done that I nearly died laughing. I imagine it might actually be decent (Shymalan has to strike gold again someday, right? RIGHT? And Paul Giametti rocks) but the trailer was... not good.

Hee -- good luck with that! I think the most cheerful thing I've ever seen there was La Dolce Vita. They were happy most of the time...
[eta: I take that back -- they're showing One Two Three right now, which I believe is fairly low in existential angst and/or trauma.]
My mother is notorious for falling asleep during the opening credits and then miss the first 15 minutes or so. But she chooses to remain silent and confused, rather than ask for a recap. Now, if it is animated, well, she'll sleep through the whole thing.
Not a useful skill for an elementary school teacher. She'd wake to find her entire class staring at her, giggling, during the couple times a year they'd get a movie as a treat.

I have come to feel that M. Knight is something of a one-trick pony. I still haven't seen that last one. I fear that further movies of his will begin to lessen my enjoyment of the ones I *did* like.
I have work-related reasons to believe that Lady in the Water will be more of the same schtick, unfortunately. (As far as we can tell, very few people involved in the production are allowed to know the entire story. It's very, very annoying.)

WHY? WHY?
Ran out of the good drugs?
But is it art?
and why would anyone agree to film it?
Warhol filmed some guy sleeping for eight hours. People are strange and off-putting.
