It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

I'm also excited about seeing Zentropa on the big screen, finally.

Oh that is cool. I saw it in a theater as part of the Boston Film festival. Unfortunately, most of the theaters at Copley Place could not be described as "the big screen".

I've said it before, I'd be much more willing to go see movies in the theatre if I didn't have to worry about having to enjoy the movie despite the audience. Too many people treat the movie theatre as if it was their own living room.

When herself was here visiting last month we went to a movie. there were 3 old ladies sitting behind us who talked throughout the entire movie (The Family Stone). When one old lady pointed out something that very plainly happened on screen, herself turned around and told them "if you want to talk, go HOME". They didn't seem to hear the Angry New Yorker and kept chatting merrily away. I was embarrased for my city. They weren't representin'.

Always Anti-fascist!

I said that at a stage show once. The offenders left at intermission and did not come back. Guess I have my mom's Scary Face.

Hey, only $36 for the Criterion edition of Brazil (including shipping)! That's... uh, still more than I can really afford to pay for it, but considering it's usually $60, that's a pretty good deal. Even used through Amazon, it's no cheaper, plus shipping charges.

Old ladies are the worst!

I like going to see movies in the theatre. I like sitting in a big dark room with strangers and being forced to focus on the big white screen. I love the event of going to the movies and how a great film will transport you and take you away from yourself for a couple of hours.

But I have found it harder and harder to enjoy movies in the theatre, and I don't know if it's me getting crotchedier or if audiences have gotten worse, but my god, people have to shut up!

It also probably doesn't help that until our indie cinema closed 10 years ago, I almost exclusively went there. I think the audiences there were better behaved. And I used to think nothing about seeing a movie 2-3 times in the theatre.

Also, I have the attention span of a tse-tse fly, so if I try to watch a movie at home by myself, it takes a lot of effort not to stop it halfway through, check my email, see what's on TV, etc. I rarely feel sucked into a movie at home the way I do in the theatre.

I'd just have to add it all to my own bankruptcy settlement.
