Weirdly enough, I didn't see that one till I was out of school already, but I wanted to be that, I just didn't know it yet. Okay, that with a little Ivins, because as Ms. Molly goes, so goes my nation.

Buffista Movies 4: Straight to Video
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
The Women is high camp at its highest and campiest. You gotta roll with it.
Guess I'd forgotten the specifics of China Seas -- I remember it as worthwhile, but the One True Gable/Harlow teaming is Red Dust. And the One True Harlow tantrum is in Bombshell.
Note to self: do not watch Brian's Song while suffering a lingering cough after a cold.

I quite enjoyed it. I think Rosalind's performance was my favorite.
So, I finally saw March of the Penguins today. Painfully cute, staggeringly beautiful. Incredible movie.
Emperor penguins are the most ridiculously improbable creature ever.
March really is fantastic...and accomplishing the film itself seems highly improbable. I'm hoping the special features on the dvd show something of how the film makers did it.
And speaking of improbable things, I watched Ringers: Lord of the Fans yesterday. It was clever in bits and a little self-indulgent here and here, but I really enjoyed it. I need to find the inevitable treatise (s) out there in ether on the sociological impact of fan sites. theonering.net has certainly made a place for itself in pop culture.
I was startled by David Carradine's passionate attachment to LOTR, as well as Lemmy Kilmister and Geddy Lee.
The only thing missing seemed to be the fangeeks from the tech side of the production. But otherwise? ALL access pass!
I love seeing people who love something loving sharing it with others who love it!
as well as Lemmy Kilmister and Geddy Lee.
Geddy I'm not so surprised about. Rush was writing songs about Middle Earth waaaay back when.
I am absolutely tickled, on the other hand, that Lemmy is a huge Rings fan.

In his Fresh Air interview, Steven Colbert revealed that he's not only a LoTR geek (which we already knew from TDS), but also read Fritz Leiber and Michael Moorcock and played D&D.
Just watched Bend It Like Beckham. Very cute, and very strange to see Steerpike from Gormenghast in such an opposite role. I hope Parminder Nagra gets a lot more work soon.

Apart from her ER gig? I think this is her second year.
Third or fourth, I think.
IMDB says she started in 2003, so this would be her third.
She's so teeny in person.
