Mal: Yeah, well, just be careful. We cheated Badger out of good money to buy that frippery, and you're supposed to make me look respectable. Kaylee: Yes, sir, Captain Tightpants.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Personally, I think the fight over AC vs. DC might have been more interesting, but that all went down when he was like 40.

They can fictionalize that part. In fact, they can fictionalize it to the point where Tesla and Edison go at each other with live electric wires (AC and DC, of course).

I love the fact that Edison used to electrocute dogs on stage to demonstrate the evils of AC. (Of course, I am using an unusual definition of "love" here.)

I liked that one.

Well, that's what my sister tells me. But "they're just friends" can be interpreted in any number of ways, can't it? Apparently, not to gossip or anything (hah!), he did fancy her quite a bit and she had to gently point out that she didn't fancy him quite as much.

You do know that the UK has a different age of consent, right? They're not doing anything illegal over there.

The resources I was able to find indicated that 16 + 23 = jailtime in Britain if the parents press the issue. But if the relationship isn't, no worries.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

You could get married at age 16 when I lived in London. I checked ageofconsent.com (why isn't that blocked at work?), and they quote:

Age of consent for sexual activity
The legal age of consent for sexual activity is sixteen (16) years, but eighteen (16) years for homosexual males.

Age of consent for marriage
The legal age of consent for marriage is sixteen (16) years.

There's more here

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

The legal age of consent for sexual activity is sixteen (16) years, but eighteen (16) years for homosexual males.

Looks like they're trying to generate some sexual ambivalence here.

Or else 16 is eighteen in gay-years.

The age of consent got equalised for homosexual males a couple of years back. And as far as I know, once you're sixteen, you can do what, or rather who, you like, regardless of parental consent.

If you read the link, which seems more recent, you get this:

The Act makes three changes to the law on sexual offences. First, it reduces the minimum age at which a person, whether male or female, may lawfully consent to buggery (an offence which does not exist in Scotland) and certain homosexual acts. This reduction is from 18 to 16 in England and Wales and Scotland, and from 18 to 17 in Northern Ireland. This equalises the age of consent for sexual activity so that it is the same for male homosexuals as for heterosexuals and lesbians ie 16 in England, Wales and Scotland and 17 in Northern Ireland. Second, in all jurisdictions, a person under the age of consent no longer commits an offence themselves if they engage in buggery (not Scotland) or certain homosexual acts with a person over the age of consent.

Also interesting is that they have a "position of trust" thingy which means that if you're over 18 and in a position of trust over someone who's 17, you're a sex offender. Does the US have anything like that?

The info I'd read must have been out of date then... it seemed to indicate that over 20s and under 18s would involve criminal prosecution of the older party.
