The good guys are accurate enough to shoot the gun out of the bad guy's hand, but the bad guys are horrible shots and usually only connect with the good guy's shoulder. Said good guy is walking around with a sling a day later and has full use of the arm within a week. Feh.
Medical accuracy in films is something my nurse mother had me watching out for at a young age. I remember seeing Deathtrap with her in the theaters, and when either Reeve or Caine got knifed in the back (I can't remember who right now), she said that it wasn't a mortal wound. Sure enough, when the "dead" guy popped up a few minutes later to freak out the audience, Mom was gloating, "I told you so!"
I would just like them to get hit by gunfire more often.
Yeah, right! Bad guys are the worst shots in the world. And the worst of all of them? Imperial fucking Stormtroopers. The fucking military can't even train them to shoot straight.
No wonder the Rebels kicked their fucking ASSES.
After Darth Vader got out of the Death Star cafeteria he got a job at FEMA.
That's why.
Said good guy is walking around with a sling a day later and has full use of the arm within a week. Feh.
Just rewatched A Knight's Tale...okay, not a shining example of anything remotely realistic...but it pinged loudly when our fair haired fellow takes a veritable table leg to the shoulder, gasps a couple of times and then swings deftly off his horse to sweep the sweet young lass up into the air in a triumphant embrace.
Would it have been too much to ask for him to at least celebrate one-armed?
Feh.
The fucking military can't even train them to shoot straight.
This is what happens when you make a clone of a clone of a clone.
A Knight's Tale! THAT'S the movie I was forgetting the other day when I was making my list of Sports Comedies I love
It's weird, because I'm not really into sports at all, but Sports Comedies? Woo! Go team!
(The list
- Dodgeball
- The Cutting Edge
- Men With Brooms
- A Knight's Tale
Tin Cup doesn't make it onto the list, but I saw it in the theatre. Bull Durham was fun when I was in my early teens, but didn't hold up.)
Tin Cup doesn't make it onto the list,
But, but, but... Golfing with gardening implements! Cheech Marin! Taking fifteen drops on the last hole!
In February I saw a four hour film on Henri Langlois called The Phantom of the Cinematheque. I just read that they're releasing a two hour version now in theaters and if you love movies, or have even a passing interest in them, I can’t recommend it enough.
Truthfully, I don’t know what this edited version is like, but the film I saw was wonderful, and beyond giving a detailed history and feel for his time, it had tons of humorous (and sad) stories about Henri, his wife, and all the insanely dedicated people who worked for him. Ultimately, it made me wish that I loved something, anything, as much as Henri Langlois loved movies. The guy was a nut, but if only we had nuts like him around today!

Do we know about Shopgirl ? (warning: that page has sound) Steve Martin, Claire Danes and Jason Schwartzman.
Based on Steve Martin's bestselling novella, "Shopgirl" is a funny and poignant story of love in the modern age. The film catches a glimpse inside the lives of three very different people on diverse paths, but all in search of the same thing.
