They did this with the Dawn of the Dead remke over here they showed the whole precredits bit. Which was the best bit of the movie.

I hereby dutifully report that I've watched Must Love Dogs over the weekend and... I really can't recommend it. I mean, it's not horrible, but it has no original bone whatsoever in its body and the central love story is very much lacking in sparks, which seem impossible because John Cusack and Diane Lane are two of the most appealing actors working today, but what can I say? The chemistry just isn't there. The writing is really limp, cliches flow like a river and the obligatory happy ending felt very much tacked on. It has a few cute bits (although not enough cute dog stuff, which I was hoping for) and I coveted Diane's wardrobe, but that's about it. It's nowhere in the Say Anything league, not even High Fidelity-esque, and perhaps closest to Serendipity in terms of quality.
Cusack's character felt v. Lloyd-clone though, in a watered-down way.

It's still my favorite romantic movie ever.

Compassionately intolerant
I saw Sky High today and liked it more than I expected to...then I snuck into the end of Must Love Dogs. Considering that DL and JC are two of my all time faves and, well, dogs are HUGE in my life, I was hopeful. Yet, something gave me a bad feeling...a bad feeling that turned out to be right.
If the last 5 or 6 minutes were anything like the rest of the movie (see the above comment about a tacked on ending), the movie at large is sort of dreadful, and wicked cliched. Diane looked really tired and John mugged in ways that looked painful to him. I left grateful I hadn't spent the 7 bones.
