The generation that could change the world is still looking for its car keys.

I'm surprised to learn he had been a member, even for a hot second, or that that many other people had too. Were they still the Fantastic Four when there were five of them, or did they swap people out?

She-Hulk was a member, too, during a time when the Thing went walkies. Wasn't Power-Man a member briefly? And, yes, they were always 4, as they others were only replacements.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Were they still the Fantastic Four when there were five of them, or did they swap people out?

Well, they could get up to Five and still be Fantastic. If they hit Six, they had to move up to Stupendous.

Thrive to spite them

I remember a really really depressing plotline in which Mr Fantastic and the Invisible Girl lost their child - can't remember if it died, or what, and it all happened on some other planet/some other dimension.

Their son was Franklin, I'm not sure what his exact story was but he was super super smart. For awhile he hung out with the Power Pack. The Power Pack were siblings (2 boys, 2 girls) who got their powers from aliens. I don't remember what their powers were but at some point all their powers got mixed between them.

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

Franklin! Yes! Well done!

...I'm quite endeared by the prospect of Spidey and the She Hulk etc stepping in to cover for members of the Fantastic Four when they were, what, on holiday, or on sick leave, or having a pyjama day, or whatever. Like Super Temps. Cool.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

They said the same thing about Highlander II: The Quickening

Yeah, but how many movies can you argue proved them wrong about that one? Right now I'm coming up with House of the Dead and Out Cold (the ski "comedy" with Jason London, not the Clooney version) that might be contenders, and not a lot else. Catwoman looked like more fun to me.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

t from far enough back in the thread that I suppose these now count as tangents ...

PS, come to Seattle. We promise not to cage you unless asked. Anyhow, it's not like Pete will actually LET Jilli have an arc welder...

coughs

I bet he would if I said I was going to use it to build a cage to keep Fay in. He would be all for that plan.

I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's something that makes me think that Jilli is going to enjoy this movie.

Gosh, you think so? Lessee, written by Neil Gaiman, directed by Dave McKean, and one snippet I've seen has a flock of creepy dolls that sing an off=kilter version of a pop song while doing a gothy makeover on the lead character. Um, yes. (I SO should have a flock of creepy dolls to do my hair and makeup, while singing at me. Why don't I have any?)

t /kinda-sorta tangent

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

She-Hulk? ...talk about your lame attempts at parity.

They're definitely in the pantheon of Major Heroes, and the first 100 issues are all essential for creating the Marvelverse.

But, like, I'd never heard of them till recently. Within the comic book universe, they sound like they're really important, but their mainstream penetration factor seems kinda low.

'cause it's be redundant, silly. The creepy dolls are out there looking for Britney-alikes to give makeovers to, surely? Sort of a Goth Eye for the Preppie Gal/Guy thing?

She Hulk is pretty cool. She's Banner's cousin and he gave her a blood transfusion. But it didn't effect her the way it had him. She got bigger (taller, bustier, etc), powerful, and green and she's like that all the time, but she kept all of her intelligence.

Even though she's very obviously She Hulk, she's a practicing lawyer (I think).

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Nutty are you defining "major" as important to/in comics, or outside of?

She-Hulk? ...talk about your lame attempts at parity.

When written well, she's a hoot. And I don't think it was parity they were going for, more T&A.
