I was charmed (albeit somewhat perplexed) by the fannish sensibility of many of the music choices -- it's like the director was trying to vid Canada. --loligo on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies

Awww, c'mon. Not even a little bit? At least as much as Lex or Sawyer.

No. No woobieness for Aeryn! Aeryn does not need a cuddle! Aeryn needs to shoot things.

But you can feel bad for her womanly man-pain if you'd like.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Can I be Aeryn's woobie? I need a cuddle form a hot chick that shoots things.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I don't think you can woobify a girl; it seems to be a term that applies to guys solely.

You just haven't read enough Batgirl, I swear. The poor dear has so much pain, but is so hard.

I can't imagine hugging Aeryn, or comforting her without immediate risk of life or limb, so I can't call her one.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I don't think you can woobify a girl; it seems to be a term that applies to guys solely.

I mean, isn't the appeal of a woobie that traditionally, the male character is supposed to be all strong and powerful, and here is one that just needs a hug? Whereas the female character is traditionally weak, and the appeal is for her to be kickass? Fun with gender roles, it is.

You just haven't read enough Batgirl, I swear. The poor dear has so much pain, but is so hard.

Cass I can see as a female woobie, for sure. She is both kickass and damaged at once. Poor dear, indeed.

Well, I can't promise she'll quite get the concept, but you can certainly try...

Thrive to spite them

I have no desire at all to hug Spike, squeeze him, or Call him George. The Spike in my mind would rip my throat out if I tried. I hate what he turned into.

I've long since stopped caring about Smallville so I don't care about Lex.

Sawyer....little kid Sawyer yes, adult Sawyer. No.

Wes...nope.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Aeryn does not need a cuddle! Aeryn needs to shoot things.

See, I always figured she could use a bit of both.

"When I look at people that I would like to feel have been a mentor or an inspiring kind of archetype of what I'd love to see my career eventually be mentioned as a footnote for in the same paragraph, it would be, like, Bowie." ~Trent Reznor

If you are, you're in good company. I also think Destruction is woobie-esque, as is Delirium. I could be over-woobiefying, though. Or perhaps The Endless lend themselves to woobieness.
If Delirium is not a woobie, no one is. Toward the end of Brief Lives when she gives her speech to Morpheus... you want nothing so bad as to hug her poor, damaged self.

DebetEsse - Jun 27, 2005 11:01:25 am PDT #4769 of 10002
Woe to the fucking wicked.

I define woobie a little differently from that definition (though in line with the, I think, implied definitions of most of the examples)

Character you want to wrap up in a blanket, take home, and feed soup to. Possibly followed by having lots of sex. The character badly needing a hug is a big part of it.

I can totally see Morpheus. Not crazy. (omgJustReadSandmanVol1!IAmGaiman'sBitch)

I think Aeryn, but she would be far too likely to kick the crap out of anyone who tried.

Well, maybe if you interpret "cuddle" as "athletic sex."
