Buffista Movies 4: Straight to Video

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Yoda cool was, though.

Emmett is under the impression that Yoda is a serious badass. Though he was also mildly upset about Mace Windu, so I think he'll be primed to appreciate Samuel L. Jackson's Bad Muthafuckah when he's old enough to see Pulp Fiction.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

And gory??? I wasn't expecting that graphic of battle injuries.

I will say that the one part I *really* liked was the sequence where (are we still whitefonting?) almost all the Jedi are killed, one by one -- it was really effective. Though realizing that Anakin was about to kill a bunch of kids was really REALLY shocking. I wasn't expecting that at all.

Uncertainty could be our guiding light.

Me too, Steph. I thought that was one of the two reasons for the PG-13 rating.

The other was when you see Anakin, near the end, and ... well, yeah. It was icky.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

I have to admit that I am utterly stupid with longing for basically every costume Natalie Portman wore, though I wouldn't turn down much of anything any of the other women wore either.

Last night I even dreamt that I ran into Natalie Portman hiding behind a four-poster bed on a sunny college campus (long involved dream, don't remember much, but do remember that), and I clutched at her and squee'd "That dress you were buried in was SO PRETTY OMG you should have worn it to the prom!" And she clutched me back and squee'd "OMG I so should have. I didn't even think of it. I love that dress I wore when I was dead!"

Hey. New board.

When I dream about Natalie Portman hiding behind a bed, that's TOTALLY not where it goes next.

move out and draw fire

Natalie Portman hiding behind a four-poster bed

Like Fuschia in Gormenghast.

Still haven't seen it, but got a note last night from someone who said, "Damn, some of the stuff in ROTS makes you wonder why Han had to shoot first." Comments?

Hey. New board.

Whoever recommended the Muppet Wizard of Oz:

You were SO right. It had zero production values, but infinite heart. And really hilarious writing.

How do they keep DOING that with muppet movies? Treasure Island is so brilliant, too.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Pictures from the Mysterious Skin premiere.

Poor MT. Something's terribly wrong with her eyes. She looks much better here.

Gordon-Levitt is looking weirdly Heath Ledgerish.

Up with the sun

I rarely say this, but I think MT looks too skinny.

Hey. New board.

She does get thinner and thinner. It's freaky. Also, that eye makeup is indeed freaky, and i generally LOVE too much eye makeup. I'm a fan of the raccoon look.

Gain ten pounds, do more family films, MT! Do it. Ice Princess was so cute.
