Bloom also confirmed that former Rolling Stone Keith Richards will play Jack Sparrow's father: "I've heard those rumors, too, and I believe there may be some truth in that, yes."
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

That's a very firm position he's taking on the rumour.
Ooh! ita said "rumour"! I bet she says "foetus", too!
But when the on-screen prosthetics peeled off for his swashbuckling leading man role in Pirates of the Caribbean, suddenly, all bets were off. The girls swooned and hysteria took over. Nearly 200 fan websites sprang up overnight
Ahem! He had an assload of fansites shortly after Fellowship. As someone who might have been paying attention to this stuff, it's insane how hard he took off with so little source material. The juggernaut already had inertia by the time PotC came out.
You're right. I remember seeing footage of the PotC premiere and there was hysteria when he arrived.
Hmph. The first time I saw PotC is was for the Orli factor. The second and third times were all about Johnny, and the fourth had a bit of a, "hey, wait, what about Jack?' influence. But Orli certainly had a pre-PotC buzz.
Fellowship and Two Towers were out at that point -- he'd definitely bust out as the teen heartthrob of choice before TTT even made it onscreen.
It's kinda creepy, except -- he's really pretty and it meant lots of pictures for this sorely visual girl to collect.
Oh, yeah, Orli was totally the swoon boy of teenyboppers everywhere well before PotC.
That's heartening news about the Guide. I had to be restrained from going back to see it immediately after, so I estimate there will be at least some repeat viewing. I'll be good for at least one other weekend stat.
And, aww, about "So long." Sweet. I did get all teary at the simple "for Douglas" dedication. Did I already mention that? 'Cause, I'm a sap.

Agreed.
Wasn't he cast on the basis of his sudden popularity?
