Ah, Alibelle. Yeah, that looked interesting. As someone who loved Magnolia, I'd like to check it out.

I saw H2G2 tonight, and I am both vastly relieved and terribly concerned.

They got the tone right. They got it right. The movie is hysterically funny in all the right ways, and the changes I thought would bother me really didn't, and there's a new element (based closely on an old one, but tweaked) that works just beautifully, and in spite of the plot being a bit on the unresolved side, I had an incredibly good time and was very happy with this new version of my beloved Guide.

And the audience was completely cold and unresponsive. The only people in the theatre laughing were me, DH, and one guy in the row in front of us. It was dead.

Granted, this was a junket screening, and so perhaps not the best gauge of audience reactions, but...it was dead. And so I have a feeling that this poor little film will open quietly and then fade quickly away. Which is a shame, because it really is incredibly funny.

Just the first one, with some stuff left out, and some new stuff added. I think they may have wanted to leave the door open for a sequel.

Saw Sahara and Fever Pitch last night. Enjoyed both of them more than I expected. Sahara is utterly weightless and stupid but McConaghey does the hero thing well and looks damn foine tanned and covered in sweat. Steve Zahn, as always, is World's Best Sidekick, getting every but of humor from every line while still being beleivable. It's no Raiders, which it is trying to be, but it was a fun popcorn movie. The orginal Colin Firth Fever Pitch is one of my favorite movies, so I was fully prepared to dislike this version, but it was fun. The fan world it depcts was right on and Jimmy Fallon actually acts. He was a little weak in a few scenes, but most of the time did a really good job of playing a nice, slightly dorky, puppylike guy. Drew Barrymore was adorable.

Going to two Bergman films tonight. That oughtta be a laugh riot.

In the morning, it occurs to me that some of the Book's lines are probably from other books. And the opening sequence is kind of taken out of context from SLATFATF. But the plot, such as it is, is all the first book.
