In the boys dressing room at the musical (where I'm usually helping out), they've been playing all of Mitch Hedberg's cd's on a loop for the past few days. It's really just very sad.

I saw Sin City last night.

I LOVED the way the movie looked. We saw a digital print, and it was just ... beautiful.

Too bad the script and performances didn't live up to the pretty shiny surfaces. There's a fine line between paying homage to cliches and just being cliched, and I think it ended on the wrong side of that line too often. Also, the first complete storyline went on way too long, to the point where I had to go to the lobby and walk around because Marv was starting to violently irritate me (I just. wanted. him to DIE already). I wanted to see more about the cannibal killer and the twisted priest and even the nudist lesbian parole officer, and much, much less -- like, five minutes with the character would have been enough -- of Marv.

But I really loved the middle segment, even if the logic of it wasn't there, and the frame story was almost as heartbreaking as it thinks it is. I agree Jessica Alba wasn't Oscar-worthy, but at least she sucked less than some of the other actresses.

Overall? A solid B-, C+, and it probably would be higher if I hadn't hated one of the segments so very much.

On a shallow note, I wonder if Alexis Bledel's WB contract has something about film nudity, 'cause she was definitely the most covered actress in the film.

Lyra, I disliked the same part as you, and noticed the same thing about AB.

It wouldn't surprise me if the WB did that, after whassername from Seventh Heaven decided to try to get out of her contract by posing for Maxim. (You can't have Rory Gilmore nude, after all.) Or, maybe it's supposed to symbolize that her character is distanced from the other other hookers/"covering up". Or possibly both -- who knows?

Lyra Jane, apparently her character in the comics is also the most covered up.

I just saw Sin City today, too. I loved the look but some of the stories went on too long. And the Clive Owen one just kind of ended before I was satisfied. The violence was about what I expected. If it had been realistic in any way I wouldn't have been able to watch. but it wasn't realistic at all.

Trust me. I passed out over the severed finger in The Piano and the boy getting run over by the thresher in The Man In the Moon and the initiation scene in A Man Called Horse.

Saw Beauty Shop last night. Wasn't horrible, wasn't as funny as Barbershop.

Dijmon? Holy fuck is that man beautiful.

meara just dropped me off after the two of us got back from seeing D.E.B.S.

That is an incredibly funny movie. Very silly and fun and incredibly incredibly HOTT, with extremely HOTT girl kissage (though not enough).

Wish I could have gone with you.

Okay, so I saw Showtime's Reefer Madness tonight. It was alright. Far from brilliant, but pretty funny at parts. Alan Cumming was especially funny, as was Amy Spanger, cuz her character kept falling down and walking into things. Kristen Bell was of course great as well, though not as great as she is on Veronica Mars , but I still got really sad when her character died. The S&M scene with Kristen and John Kassir was pretty great. The musical numbers were okay. Most of them weren't very memorable, but they didn't suck. It was a surprisingly bloody movie. It wasn't Kill Bill or Sin City , but it had quite a bit of shootings and chopping up of bodies and also some zombie violence. It had some sex, too, of course. If you're a fan of Christian Campbell's body, you'll probably enjoy this movie.

If you get Showtime, you might wanna consider watching this; it's fairly entertaining, but don't go out of your way to see it - the film's not all that memorable.
