I think talking to your kids about what they're reading is always a good idea, but I disagree with the implication that liking Twilight is some kind of huge red flag.

Agreed. Anecdotal evidence: my daughter was 13 or 14 when Twilight came out,target audience all the way. She was in LOVE with them. Talked about them all the time, as did all her friends. By the time Breaking Dawn came out, she and most of her friends were mocking them, not only for the Bella/Edward dysfunctional relationship but for the poor writing too. She read half of Eclipse and then put it in the Goodwill pile, and refused to go anywhere near Breaking Dawn - although she loved Cleolinda's recaps. There's the difference between 13/14 and 17/18. She has clearly defined ideas about relationships now at 20 (as her boyfriend found out early in their relationship, she takes no crap)
Re: Mark watches. He and I aren't on the same wavelength, but he has gotten me to do an epic rewatch of Buffy and Angel, and I just finished S4 Buffy and S1 Angel. I forgot just how much HSQ was packed into To Shanshu in LA. Among other things: Angel Investigations getting blown up, Lindsey getting his hand cut off, and Darla getting raised. So great!

the LJ link Una posted is one i saw back when i first read the twilight books (and yes, i read them all. not like they were heavy reading or took a long time...) and is HYSTERICAL. Sparkle-peen, she gets it.
All this discussion is making me very happy that buffy S1 is free on hulu basic right now. i really need to get my sister to give me back my series dvds. Curse my good-heartedness in having the chose edition shipped directly to her so she could watch something decent while dealing with the horrors of being 15...gosh darn it, i want my Buffy and haven't even touched the box myself!

Guys, last night, in the car on the way home, I heard Queen's "We Are the Champions," and I realized that after all this time, I *still* immediately think of Wes, Gunn, and Cordy singing it, every single time I hear it. Every. Time.
