I think I'm in the clear minority of those who did not like "The Gift." I think that is the weakest season finale of Buffy. I definitely liked "Home" a whole lot more. One of my reasons for not liking the "The Gift" had to do with Dawn fatigue, but I am not sure I really liked the idea of Buffy self-sacrifice as the only resolution.
Buffy and Angel 1: BUFFYNANGLE4EVA!!!!!1!
Is it better the second time around? Or the third? Or tenth? This is the place to come when you have a burning desire to talk about an old episode that was just re-run.

Pretty much that was my basic reason for not liking The Gift, but on a meta note, I loved that Joss was willing to kill off his main character. I mean, we knew that she would be back, but HOLY FUCKING SHIT.

He did have a certain freedom there that the makers of Felicity would have struggled with.
I'd have a much harder time choosing between The Gift and Home.
Oooh. Ouch. I think if I had to pick, I'd pick Home, but just barely.
My problem with The Gift was the whole "this is my blood, so I can do this instead of you" thing. Both those points came out of nowhere, and it made no sense.
I hated The Gift, so I'd choose Home, which is one of my favorite episodes of TV in the history of EVER.

This was the very thing that prompted us to invent the word "asspull."
I LOVED The Gift. I still cry every time I watch it. Totally the best Buffy season ender in my book.
Since I'm off on Fridays now (yay, reduced income), I'm still watching Buffy S3. The Prom still makes me cry, though not in as many points as it used to.
I used to cry at: (1) Angel dumping Buffy in the sewer [worst. breakup. ever.], (2) Buffy crying on Willow's lap post-breakup, and (3) the Class Protector scene.
Now, I got teary when (1) Buffy told Giles that Angel was leaving her and Giles said that he understood these things called for ice cream, and (2) the Class Protector scene.
Now I'm on to Graduation Day Pt. 1, and I just need to reiterate how much I love the mayor.
I love The Gift because it has good emotional resonance, but its logic is pretty nonexistent, so whether I consider it good writing/showcrafting sort of depends on my mood that day.
Home was great.
I LOVED Not Fade Away.
Chosen... I didn't love it. I loved some bits of it, but not it as a whole.
