'Objects In Space'

Buffy and Angel 1: BUFFYNANGLE4EVA!!!!!1!

Is it better the second time around? Or the third? Or tenth? This is the place to come when you have a burning desire to talk about an old episode that was just re-run.

Also, I think Livia Soprano is a dead tip-off that someone's working their personal issues into that list.

Her and the James Dean-alike from Twin Peaks whose very existence I'd forgotten entirely for almost two decades until reminded by the article.

Art Crawl!!!

Yeah, I don't remember the guy from Twin Peaks as being a hated character.

Of course, I don't remember discussing Twin Peaks with people either.

Yeah, I thought he was an odd choice too - bland tends to inspire indifference or mild annoyance, not burning hatred. But Livia really pinged me because what the writer was saying that brought the hatred was why people LOVED to hate her (with an added dose of "I didn't think she had it in her" if you'd seen her in the LOU GRANT era).

Ann, that's a ferret.

Haven't seen Sopranos, but that's why Livia stood out for me, too. You were supposed to hate her. Which means that, unlike the rest, they succeeded in creating the character they intended.

To a degree, the same with Dawn. She was a very successful character in S5. The problem was, there wasn't a whole lot to do with her in S6 and S7.

As opposed to blunders like, say, Cousin Oliver. Who the audience was supposed to like and, to put it mildly, didn't.

She was a very successful character in S5.

Successful maybe, but still annoying. It was an interesting way to add a character, and the character played an important role, but I still dislike Dawn in most eps.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

But that didn't stop her from being an intolerably shrill, whiny, manipulative, troublemaking little McGuffin for most of the rest of the series.

I love this. And if she had died or been reKeyed at the end of the season, that would have been fine. But, she stayed around and got the hell on my nerves. Of course my hatred of her helped me not notice that season 6 was sucking so badly, so I guess that she served a purpose.

I always thought she was one of the reasons for the suckiness.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I don't remember discussing Twin Peaks with people either.

Oh, I did. Endlessly. But not that character - he was pretty bland and boring, but not hated.

Maybe we just weren't meta-aware enough.

Livia didn't get old for me, either. And I'm pretty damn fond of Al Swearengen.
