I'm afraid I do for this - it's not a standard I hold all comic book character adaptations to, but I think the big icons like Wonder Woman and Superman really need to bear a strong resemblance to their original printed sources.
Seriously -- I can't imagine a black Superman, despite how kick-ass Djimon Hounsou could be in the role. (Seriously -- the man has got the physique, no question, and he can even get his Clark Kent on.)
I don't think Morena bears a strong resemblance to Wonder Woman. She's got the colouring, but I'd rather see Gina in whiteface (okay, please don't, but I think that'd be closer to looking like WW than Morena even after the Jessica Biel program).
blonde girlfriends make people nervous
Heh. Don't know if we make people nervous, but we do occassionally get second looks. Not often, though.
What I really like about the way they've been drawing WW in recent years is they've given her a specific Greek ethnicity, right down to the turn in her nose.
Oh, that means it's Jennifer Garner, for sure!
(Don't THROW things at me!)
Wonder Woman should have a dancer's body. Morena doesn't, Gina Torres does.
I really can't think of anybody that has Gina's combination of build, sheer prettiness, presence, proven action ability, acting chops and warmth. Also she's got good hair.
I'm wondering if they could just hang a lampshade on the divergence from expected race.
Unfortunately, we've now got CATWOMAN (and Halle) to thank for another reason they might fling out there for not casting color-blind. And there was more precedent in that case.
