Buffy and Angel 1: BUFFYNANGLE4EVA!!!!!1!
Is it better the second time around? Or the third? Or tenth? This is the place to come when you have a burning desire to talk about an old episode that was just re-run.
Surprise was like my 3rd episode ever. I spent all of Innocence wondering how they were going to cure Angel by the end of the episode. It never ocurred to me that they might leave him that way, which is one of the things that put the hook in me big time.
Scott and I were watching
Becoming
last night. He was imagining what it must have been like to see season 2 in real time. We came in, in season three, and so were spoiled by exposition and reruns.
Oh, and for Vortex, Matt is right. The Orb of Thesulah definitely disappears after the Gypsy Woman imparts the original curse on Angelus. I didn't get to the second half of
Becoming,
actually, I didn't get the the second half of
Becoming, part I,
because I fell asleep, but that must be what happens when Willow re-curses Angelus.
Heh, I enjoyed backtracking to find the Giles reveal at the end of S6. I was a very new and intermittent lurker (or, actually, might have not even been here yet) at the time - in any case, I wasn't doing the W-n-P, but I just loved the string of
GILES!!!!!!!!!
Warmed my shrivelled up little walnut of a heart, it did.

Unfortunately, unless you were really going out of your way to avoid spoilers, it was pretty common knowledge at that point that Angel was in the early planning stages, even if there was a still a whole season of Buffy to go before it saw the light of day. At least that's my memory, and I was watching in real time.
Was it still surprising that she killed him (sent him to Hell, whatever)? What about Angel losing his soul?

That was all a total shock to me. I watched in real time and wasn't involved in fandom at all. It seemed as if anything could happen.
I was also unspoiled for Angel coming back, though that was kind of disappointing.

It was sad, but because of the known spin-off it was obvious it wouldn't last.
What about Angel losing his soul?
As I said, 3rd episode ever, so I figured they'd have it fixed by the end of the episode, or maybe the next. It wasn't until Passion that it was obvious they weren't going to fix any time soon.
Someone spoiled the thread for Angel getting his soul back. Can you imagine?
NO!!! Oh, that's awful!

Knowing Joss the way you do now, you know that was a foolish thought! Bring on the pain, baybee.
GILES!!!!!!!!!
I scared my cat by actually screaming that out loud.
And, if you read on? Someone spoiled the thread for Angel getting his soul back. Can you imagine? We'd have lynched him, these days.
I found out about Joyce's death (I'd expected her death, but still...) because someone created a thread and the title read, "Spoilers inside! JOYCE DIES!!!" ugh
Oh, no! What board was that on, Cindy? The Bronze?
It was on the threaded side of the Bronze, ChiKat. I was already lurking at the linear side (which is what most, if not all, Buffistas are talking about, when they refer to the Bronze).

My husband accidentally hit the stop button on the VCR, while we were recording--right at the GILES!!!!!!!!!!! moment. I had to work very hard to remember marriage is more important than a TV show. Fortunately, my Bronzer friend white wings (who lurks sometimes, hi white wings) took pity on us, sent me a tape of both.
