'War Stories'

Buffy and Angel 1: BUFFYNANGLE4EVA!!!!!1!

Is it better the second time around? Or the third? Or tenth? This is the place to come when you have a burning desire to talk about an old episode that was just re-run.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

  • Soldiers are not great- Isn't the white dude on the first season of Arrow?
  • Hus is not great

Act 2

  • Ears- foreshadowing Willow's magic problem
  • Also Willow off her game- for something Blue
  • Buffy is a good detective
  • I love the filming of Buffy and Giles in the kitchen as well as the interplay between Thanksgiving/normalcy and the Slaying/mystery
  • I think the lurking is a dick move from Angel.
  • The cut from Angel saying to be on the outside looking in and what he can't have to starving Spike looking in at the vampires eating people is hysterical to me.
  • Why is the coffe shop mostly outside? IS that a California thing
  • Love that Willow is a jerk about both Cordelia and Anya. She is sort of like a "nice guy" in female form. She has some entitlement issues
  • Still like normal Riley
  • Also great cut with "home is the place where they have to take you in" to Spike and Harmony.
  • Love self actualized Harmony- also comedy gold!
  • The chip is a real demonstration of how obstacles are a character's problem but an actor's friend
  • I realize I sort of don't like fight scenes and tune out
  • There is a great Nationwide commercial with Hamilton's Aaron Burr

Act 3

  • Again, the Giles kitchen lighting and framing are amazing
  • I like my evil like I like my men...
  • What's a ricer?
  • This is a first exploration of demons maybe not all being bad- except Amya..
  • Poor Chumash.
  • Willow and Giles are a good demonstration of political disagreements at Thanksgiving-- "I have to baste!"
  • "You didn't bring rolls?
  • When I worked at worked at Penney's, we sold all the lamps in Giles house
  • Oooh- you don't talk to vengeance demons, you slay them. Horrible. But love the "family fight" at Thanksgiving.
  • Spike at the door- also comedy gold!
  • He had "trouble performing"
  • Hus is a little to comical with the "me-shuppa shoop"
8

  • love complainey Spike
  • Adore the Conquering Nations speech!
  • Really great framing/lighting with Buffy Giles and Spike. Very different from the rest of the series
  • "You can have casinos now!"
  • The bicycles/music/rescue are also hilarious- shades of 80's movies and Stranger Things
  • Giles on the phone with Angel- also hilarious!
  • Does Giles rent or own-- that is a lot of broken windows
  • Liked Anya and Willow working together!
  • You made a bear!!!! undo it! undo it!
  • Gentle Ben is an old reference for Xander, I think, assuming he is about 4 years younger than I am
  • aww. Poor angel on the outside. Even though he is not my favorite.
  • They still had dinner!!
  • Love how they had Spike at the table
  • End shot, again hilarious! Very different camera work in this episode.

Our wings are not tired.

Theme: Always makes me chair dance!

Every single time!

Imaginary Xander is quite the machine!

Was waiting for it. Just love Anya too!

I think the lurking is a dick move from Angel.

Very much so.

Why is the coffe shop mostly outside? IS that a California thing

They are here too.

Also great cut with "home is the place where they have to take you in" to Spike and Harmony.

That and Spike struggling to carry Harmony, and the stake, all pure gold!

He had "trouble performing"

Snerk, waited for that one too. Even better when you know it is coming.

I may have to watch it again tomorrow!

What is even happening?

We're going to watch as soon as my pies are done.

Sophia:

Weird we never see Willow's mother.

We do, but only once, as far as I can recall. It was in 3.11, "Gingerbread." She was involved with MOO (Mothers Opposed to the Occult). That's the episode in which Amy turns into a rat. Jordan Baker played Sheila Rosenberg.

Does Joyce become a better mom because of Dawn?

I don't know, but I do think she is a better mother with Dawn, and in part, probably because of the experience of parenting Buffy. We always joke that our eldest is the Beta kid, and that numbers two and three get better parenting, because everything has been pre-tested.

"From beneath you it devours"- Willow says we wonder

I'm not following this. Was there a reference?

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

She is sort of like a "nice guy" in female form. She has some entitlement issues

Looking back, I realize that Willow is the "I'm not like other girls" sort of girl.

Hi Buffistats! I used to post here long ago. I didn't know where else to share my weird emotions over the 20th anniversary of the Buffy 2-Night Event tomorrow.

I'd loved the show before, but Surprise & Innocence turned me into a superfangirl. I was so happy to find a home with the Buffistas.

What is even happening?

Hey candyb! I miss you and our spoiler gang, from when Buffy and Angel were on. I hope everything is well with you.

Wow, 20 years since Surprise and Innocence. I mean, I guess I knew it, because I noted the 20th anniversary of the premiere, last year, but it hadn't registered.

I remember bits of that ad (from your link). That's when the show moved nights.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I think that was my favorite ad for the run of both series. It was early enough in the narrative that the possibility of one of Buffy's friends turning coat was really exciting.

I mean, I don't recall it being a huge mystery who it was going to be, as Angel just barely picked Buffy over Darla the previous year and he was all wistful and torn about Drusilla from her introduction in the second season. But still, very effective promo.
