Andi and I just finished watching episode 3.
Fun. Andi was disturbed by the memory wipe at first, but I'll let her describe why, if she wants.
Me? I like the way the denizens of Eureka have aided the sheriff with a couple of gizmos. The smart car telling him the approaching car is exceeding the speed limit, so he doen't have to activly deal with the drudgery of getting out radar eqipment and checking everyone. Although I'd suggest a wi-fi or bluetooth based ticket machine/pda/tablet that prints out a hard copy for the motorist would be useful...
I like that Jack is basically a modern Andy Griffith. In the Andy Griffith Show, everyone around him had something odd, something he was good at, Andy was good at being the reasonable one who cut through the crap. Jack's not dumb, not a luddite, embraces the technology that works for him, and respects the geeks around him. Tech may not be his thing, but he's not daunted by it.
I also like Henry. He's comfortable enough in his life that he wears what he likes to wear because he's certain to dash off and get down to work. We may see him in the future out of those work clothes, to which I can envision him saying to Jack. "I
have
other clothes. I just like to protect them. I'm very messy, sometimes. "
Some of the other characters could become one-note, but only 3 eps in, too early to tell, and it would be a great disservice to beg trouble.

I'm normally a Jim Carrey fan, but that movie was awful. A Christopher Walken Grinch would have been interesting indeed.
Now, see, Christopher Walken as the Grinch, that I could have watched. Just looking at Jim Carrey creeps me out so badly I dare not watch. He's like Jack Nicholson that way - never turns off the creepification. Walken seems to be able to shut it down occasionally.
About the show, I really like it in that special, afraid to get too attached, cringing lest it get cancelled faster than Firefly but oh, wait, it isn't on Fox so there is hope, kind of way.
I'm very sad that there are only 11 more episodes of Eureka.

Manipulation seriously squicks me. Manipulating characters so much, especially Jack as audience proxy, started to feel like the audience was being manipulated, and it took me out of the moment. But then the story took over, and I forgot all about it. I realize that any form of storytelling is a form of manipulation. But if a story is going to successfully tug on my heartstrings, I really cannnot be fully aware of the motion of those strings.

There was one day he worked 14 hours and then got 4 hours off and was called back to do it again. He went home to his new apartment that had no furniture (he was moving), slept in an 70's orange armchair for 2 hours and came back.
Aw. The poor thing. Overwork + no furniture = woe! I've been there. Well, not the having to fake the voice of an overly possessive creepy computer house-thingie, but close! And tell him we loved him as the Mouthbreather! And that we are very impressed with his vocal prowess.
Re. memory wipe: Didn't someone bring up Willow and Tara and Lethe's bramble for comparison? And Jason did it over and over again. Seriously, if I were Kim, I'd have totally let that creep be vaporized.

I watched the pilot with my 11 & 14 year old sons and they loved it.
I just realized reading this that as much as I like EUREKA now, I wish I could have seen this show when I was a 10-15 year old because I would have LOVED it. Oh well.

I love this. So, does that make Fargo Barney Fife, and, if so, what do they only give him one of that he has to keep in his shirt pocket?
I'd add that Jack's also got a good sense of deduction that fills a necessary gap in the town's skill set, which is probably going to be what causes conflict with/problems for evil shrink lady.

Has anyone else been watching the episode "bits" on SciFi website? It's a short episode called "Hide and Seek", and they're putting each act on the web after the show airs on Tuesdays.
