A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much any other "genre" show that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

The Empty Child and
The Doctor Dances
were the definite highpoint of Series 1 for me.
Anyone else see S2 Ep4 yesterday? Spoilerfont:
Strange episode, not really sure what I think. Will definitely have to rewatch. My reaction is probably affected by the news that I believe Sylvia Miles is currently dating David Tennant IRL.
Oh, and
the Doctor is Vulcan! Who knew?
On edit: funnily enough, both The Empty Child and S2 Ep 4 were written by Steven Moffat. So that explains
the references and quotes they share
.
Fiona, I saw the new season two ep.
I thought it was just a jolly good romp, with some particularly nice Doctor character moments. Sophia Myles played a blinder too, I thought. Seems to me like they didn't want to do anything too exciting or too dangerous, because next week! Cybermen!
After watching s2 ep4, I had a very weird dream last night: That I visited
Versailles
with the now adult classmates from Jr. High history classes. I was very angry and heartbroken when I saw that the original ceilings and floors had been covered up with cheap linoleum and a drop ceiling in the areas the public were allowed to visit. And you should have seen me trying to speak
french
to the gift shop clerk.
Jars, a
romp
? I wouldn't have described it as that at all. I found it
rather downbeat.
Funny how two reactions to the same episode can be so different.
Some not-so-nice news I read this morning:
apparently Captain Jack isn't going to return to Doctor Who, but go straight to Torchwood. Scheduling conflicts. Boo
!
I thought that the
doctor character bits with whatsherface were a bit downbeat,
but other than that?
There was a horse on a spaceship! That he rode through a mirror! Pre-revolution France! Fancy dresses! Clockwork monsters and freeze-guns! I think maybe I just caught the fun! aspects of it more than the doomed love bits.
I would acll S2ep4"
bittersweet.
"
I think that last episode (2x3) and this one they were trying to show
Rose realizing the complexity of falling in love with a timelord.
also,
she is feeling jealousy, which could be a good motivator. It may also help them stretch the relationship a bit, instead of making it a simple princess/knight tale.
...And that would fit the pattern of the series. familiar situations, with a bit of a twist.
S2ep4:
I also thought that
David Tenant
looked like
John Lennon
in the scene with the
tie around his head
and especially with the
dark round sunglasses.
does anyone have or know where i can get the full opening theme song in .mp3 of Doctor Who?
found it!
I enjoyed Who 2.4. I thought the actress who played
MdeP was wonderful,
and I thought the interaction between her an
Rose was quite touching.
And
Mickey
did something funny that made me laugh out loud, but now I can't remember what it was.
Anyway, over all,
sad, sweet, engaging.
I liked it.
And I had a great time rewatching
The Empty Child.
I'd forgotten parts of it. Good and creepy. That's the ep (well, the two-parter) that pushed me from like to love, if I recall.
I'm sort of sad that this show is so relentlessly [pseudo]science-based, as I'm sure they're going to explain it as runaway nanites that imprinted on the first person they encountered or somesuch. It'd be better if there was room for the supernatural/unknown and the nature of the contagion was never explained at all.
Matt, I obviously won't tell you how they explain it, but I'll just say that I thought it was brilliant and brilliantly done.
As for the latest new episode, I liked it. It was like a
lovely, condensed version of The Time Traveler's Wife. And the music at the end was wonderful.
