And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

We read parts of the Illiad.

Oh right! We also read the Illiad and the Odyssey at some point. Can't remember when.

If I only had a brain...

My kids read bits of the Iliad and the Odyssey, and my son studied all the Greek gods. He studied Islam and Buddhism, too, which I thought was cool.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

He studied Islam and Buddhism, too, which I thought was cool.

You're all a bunch of weirdos.

Okay, maybe I can phrase that better. Studying religion was what we did in Religious Studies. It was a mandatory class in the English school I attended, and I know I got much of my Greek and Roman mythology by stealing books from my Jamaican schools.

When y'all separated church from state you did it weirdly.

Yeah, that's what I meant to say. The idea that I wouldn't have studied Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam before graduating school is counter to what I take for granted.

So, BSG DVDs - it's time.

I know from several posts here that there seem to be differing versions out there. Can someone summarize what's out there and what's the preferred release version for each season?

Art Crawl!!!

Well, I bought the mini-series - because it was on sale and then the season 1 dvds came out and they included the mini -- so don't buy the mini.

So far, it's season 1 and the first half of season 2. That's what I would recommend. I believe that some Best Buy's had the British season one dvd - but I don't think that there is any compelling reason to buy them.

Of course, some would recommend waiting 'til there is a full season 2 dvd set out there -- it's up to you.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Do we know for sure they're gonna do that?

Art Crawl!!!

No.

I'm definitely going to get the 2nd half dvd.

I think that the real worry is that instead of doing a 2nd half dvd for those of us who bought the first half -- is that there will be a full season dvd, but no 2nd half. So you wind up with the first half season twice.

I'm pretty much self-taught on Greco-Roman mythology. My library had a lot on it, for various age groups, so I've been reading up on it from around age 8 to today.

That would suck. I would go on the internets and complain.

I'm pretty sure they have talked about the season 2 - 2nd half DVD release....

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Thanks all. I didn't catch the mini, and by the time the word was out how good the series proper was, I hadn't caught on by then, and didn't want to play catch up at that point. Looks like I'll have to now.

Isn't one of the episodes in the Season 2 part 1 extended from the broadcast version?
