Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Do kids these days not study mythology in school?

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

I never studied mythology in school. I learned it on my own. If I hadn't accidentally come across a Bulfinches Mythology in the public library when I was 7, I might've easily remained unaware that Greek and Roman mythology existed, until I went to college.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

We did when I was in high school, but I graduated, umm...

Crap. Fourteen years ago.

Also, that was in pre-I.B. Hon. English.

I have no frame of ref. for what normal kids study, having never been one.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I read Edith Hamilton in elementary school (Social Studies), and then again in either high school or middle school English class.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

We read parts of the Illiad. We also hit mythology in Jr Hi. I'm pretty sure we hit a verion of Arachne in 4th grade or so. I both HS and JrHi were Honors classes, but I'm pretty sure that at least some mythology gets into most people's schooling.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

the elementry school kids around here study mythology. but I don't know how well.

I know I studied it in school - but scince I read fairytales, mythology , folktales and tall tales pretty indiscriminately in elementry school, I couldn't tell you what i learned in school and what i picked up on my own.

We read parts of the Illiad.

Oh right! We also read the Illiad and the Odyssey at some point. Can't remember when.

If I only had a brain...

My kids read bits of the Iliad and the Odyssey, and my son studied all the Greek gods. He studied Islam and Buddhism, too, which I thought was cool.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

He studied Islam and Buddhism, too, which I thought was cool.

You're all a bunch of weirdos.

Okay, maybe I can phrase that better. Studying religion was what we did in Religious Studies. It was a mandatory class in the English school I attended, and I know I got much of my Greek and Roman mythology by stealing books from my Jamaican schools.

When y'all separated church from state you did it weirdly.

Yeah, that's what I meant to say. The idea that I wouldn't have studied Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam before graduating school is counter to what I take for granted.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

So, BSG DVDs - it's time.

I know from several posts here that there seem to be differing versions out there. Can someone summarize what's out there and what's the preferred release version for each season?
