DVDs are usually priced below MSRP, aren't they? Using the HBO model again, all of their dramas are priced at $100, and they actually sell for $65 or so.
I haven't bought the first season of Carnivàle, and that show was practically made with my tastes in mind.Did you like season 2? I don't know how much of my frustration with Carnivàle was due to dealing with it and Galactica at the same time, but I felt like it was playing a limbo game with my expectations.

Did you like season 2? I don't know how much of my frustration with Carnivàle was due to dealing with it and Galactica at the same time, but I felt like it was playing a limbo game with my expectations.
I liked it, but there were a lot of things that I felt were done poorly in comparison to Season 1. The glacial pace, mystery, and devotion to mood of the previous year were things that made me love it. I also loved the Brother Justin storyline back when he appeared to be a righteous man struggling against his sinister destiny, rather than a mwah-ha-ha-ing cardboard villain.
The only things I liked better about Season 2 were the (largely unrealized) hints that Iris would be her brother's undoing, and the extra 50 IQ points they gave Ben toward the end. Oh, and the more prominent use of the "shake dust" score.

So very much yes. To everything you said, but that one in particular. For a while I thought maybe he was a righteous man serving a wrathful Old Testament Jehovah, which was also fun.

I LOVED the fact that the earthly representative of the supernatural forces of Darkness was (at first) a devout minister who was tormented by his visions and the powers he possessed, while the representative of Light was a surly murderer who was rejected by his family and fell in with a bunch of society's outcasts while on the run from the law.
It got a lot less fun when Ben became nicer and more respectable and Justin started doing evil for fun rather than in service to the Lord.

Heh. Justin was genuinely tormented by his demons. Caleb was sorta nagged by them.
But yeah, I had all these insanely convoluted theories, and I knew they were bullshit but it was fun to come up with them until everything turned into a cartoon. It was like having David Lynch do the first half of a movie, and George Lucas coming in to finish it.
