There was a recurring comment on the commentaries. There's not been a lot of Sci-Fi filmed in Australia, so a lot of big names were on the show and took hold of the opportunity to play aliens, took it to 11, and then chewed on it a bit. Ok, the last bit is my reading, but still.

I didn't doubt it would, but the episodes so far have seemed so ridiculously self-contained (like, they start out in some place and I have no clue how they got there and something catastrophic is happening, and ta da, you have an A plot), I was wondering whether I could, you know, miss them and still follow. Because for some reason, the DVR didn't record the WGN showing yesterday, so I had it pick up tonight's WB showing. Glad I did!

Except I don't even remember what D'Argo's fake crime is. I'll assume his true crime is way cooler.

I think it's pretty standard for shows to try to start off with a few stand-alone eps, so there's a few weeks of easy-jumping-in-for-word-of-mouth-advertising. After that, it starts getting really hard to catch up.

For values of "cooler" that equal "more angst and interesting plot implications". What he said before was that he killed his CO.

The other one that sticks in my mind is, I think, next week's (at least, according to Rosie). TGIFAgain makes me want to take the guest star aside and say, "yes, she's an alien, but aliens are people, too"

Yeah, I get that. Although shows like VM and Lost started developing an arc immediately, within those stand-alone eps. But I'm definitely excited for the show to get arc-y. The characters and their dynamics are growing on me. Rygel still doesn't seem like anything more than a plot device at any given time, though. I mean, technically, neither does Pilot, but I'm much more positive about him.

Imagine watching The Season 1 Finale of VM having seen nothing else.

Times 10. At least. And that's just Season 2.

That, IME, is more or less standard reaction to Pilot and Rygel. Pilot's the puppet that makes you cry. But Rygel does get more tolerable as time goes on.

I loved how Crichton just started cutting everyone off once he'd had a couple futureflashes.

Oh, and this exchange was priceless:

"What's wrong with him?"
"He is Crichton."

But the sex dreams turned out to be totally gratuitous and pointless. Though I was surprised by how much they got away with.

If the dreams involved Browder and Black, they might be gratuitous but I'd hardly call them pointless...
