If I only had a brain...

I second that.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

::doesn't actually like Vala, as much as CB rocks::

As a viewer I love Vala. Were I anyone working in Cheyenne Mountain, I suspect I'd feign a bit of clumsy assault rifle dropping while the safety was off and the barrel pointed in her direction.

True. She's a bit Spikelike in that way. One-dimensional character, and the one dimension is annoying. She should have been sitting chained in the brig for the entire run of the character.

But... Claudia Black!

But... Claudia Black!

Yup!

With marginally better writing, she could have continued to be annoying (for the humor factor) while showing herself to be relatively trustworthy and a useful addition to the team. It wouldn't have taken much.

But, this is SG-1 we're talking about. ::sigh::

All is well that ends in pizza.

No Margerine. Butter.

SG1 has written entertaining characters before. In fact, it still entertains me.

Not with Vala, though.

I suspect, ita, you have a low tolerance for annoying. Or annoying characters that don't bring anything else to the table.

I've got a low tolerance for embarrassing, but I don't mind annoying so much, so long as they're funny too. Hence my ability to put up with Rygel (but not Jool).

Well, if I'd found Rygel funny, ever, I mightn't have disliked him so much. But there was nothing there for me to like, not even despite myself.

Vala -- she just doesn't add up for me. I feel like I'm being sold a pig in a poke.
