I thought the exact same thing, Daniel.
So, yeah, blah. Lots of really bad CGI and a fairly dumb plot with a couple of pointless villains. As season premieres go, I think this was Smallville's worst. At least we got new credits that don't involve that cheesy shot of Lana getting thrown by the explosion.
That said, they could some interesting stuff with what they setup in this episode.

I thought the season premiere of Smallville was one of the better ones given how much they had to cram in. But, maybe my standards are so low from the crappiness of last season that I would have been happy with anything. I assume the pointless villains will show up again later in the season.
The FOS was very squee-worthy.

Most dry cleaning? Easy. Cat on Red Dwarf has a bigger dry cleaning bill in a WEEK than Mal has his entire life. And only slightly less than the entire Starship Enterprise every season.

The remake of The Night Stalker has as much resemblence to the original as remaking Columbo with Matt LeBlanc.
