I don't think it originated there, but I always liked MST3K's use of "dickweed".

In the seventies, Marvel Comics started using "spit" in place of "shit," leading to wonderful phrase "I'm scared spitless." Ah, the comics code.

See that one almost works (fear causing dry mouth and all), but you start exploring other options like "you're full of spit", "spithead", "bullspit" or "eat spit and die", and it gets frelling hilarious.
