Apart from sports, "my secret favorite thing on earth is ketchup. I will put ketchup on anything. But it has to be Heinz." - my husband, Michael Vartan

I so wished I could go to the Paley festival. There's a discount if you go to an LA university, too. Or so I was told. Oh well.

So catching up on Natter has made me add the following to my to do list:

  • Develop stronger opinions on home schooling.
  • Find more pictures of kitties in baskets.
  • Be funnier.

That's it. I have simple needs, apparently.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

I live on board time.

I am awake.

I am awake because Annabel has a cold, and she awoke sniffly and mildly fussy at 1:00. Because DH has to go into work earlier than normal tomorrow, this is solely my problem. So I rocked her for an hour and a half. She kept nearly dropping off and waking again, all squirmy. So I thought, "Maybe she's sleepy but uncomfortable. Maybe she'll fall asleep in a few minutes if I put her back in the crib." So I tried it. And for five minutes I thought it had worked. But then she woke up and started making noises. Which woke DH.

So I brought her back in here, put her in the playpen next to the computer, and came here. Because clearly the rocking wasn't getting us anywhere. I've more or less resigned myself to a sleepless night, but I'm so tired I'm sitting here crying.

She's now standing up in her playpen making cute noises!

How is she not tired? How? She usually sleeps from 9:00 p.m. till 7:00 or 8:00 a.m. And how am I going to function tomorrow on no sleep at all when I already feel near my breaking point?

We're all getting played with, babe. -Weird Barbie

Susan, I know this is in no way equivalent, but my dogs got me up a half an hour ago and now I'm awake and really REALLY don't want to be. Want to sleep. So tired.

I hope you get some rest or can manage a nap later. I'm sorry about the sleepless night; those aren't fun.

I don't think I've pulled a true all-nighter since college. Even when Annabel was a wee newbie and we were having the feeding problems, I got naps here and there each night.

(And yes, this is a true all-nighter because I was stupid and went to bed at 1:00 a.m. I was finishing up a critique I'd promised a friend, and I thought I'd get to sleep in, since DH is taking first shower, or if Annabel woke up on the early end of her normal pattern, at least I'd have 6 hours of sleep. I can function on 6 hours. But I can't function on this.)

Eeek -- I just looked at the time stamp. You must still be awake.

Yep. Still here. She's whimpering, but when I tried to pick her up and cuddle her, she squirmed after a minute or two of it.

If she falls asleep in the playpen, I'm just going to leave her here and go lie down. She takes naps in it all the time and it's supposed to double as a portable crib, so it should be perfectly safe. But I've never seen her fight sleep this hard before.

My heart truly goes out to you and her -- poor wee thing! Poor wee mommy! I've spent enough time trying to get to sleep that I can sympathize thoroughly with the both of you.

And still here. I can't believe this.
