Mayor Oscar Goodman said he was just being himself when he told elementary school students that drinking was one of his hobbies and that the one thing he would want if stranded on an island is a bottle of gin. "I answered the question honestly," Goodman told reporters. "I'm not going to lie to children. I'm not going to say I would take a teddy bear or a Bible." Asked if he had a drinking problem, Goodman answered, "Oh, absolutely not. I love to drink." Moments later, he cut off questions and walked out of the news conference. Goodman has never been shy about his love of gin and hosts regular "Martinis with the Mayor" events.

Lee, from what little I know about scoliosis, most children outgrow it, particularly if they are vigilant with their use of the brace. For the few who don't, it unfortunately tends to get worse as they get older. One of my former students had severe scoliosis that needed surgery, but her case had complications from the start. IT wasn't diagnosed until she was already quite a bit older. For your neice, she has been diagnosed in a timely fashion and treatment has begun. All the signs are hopeful.

I have a TV technology question. I'm going through a lot of old Twilight Zones, and there's a marked distinction in picture quality. The ep I'm watching right now (The Whole Truth, 1961) is very sharp and clear. Distractingly so -- the depth of field is huge, and it's disconcerting to my eye. Was there a shift in technology that made this possible?

TV nowadays uses focus as part of emphasis -- was the Twilight Zone alone at the time in this deep field, or did it come into vogue across the market, and go out again?

My mom had a similar cat incident, though she wasn't on the interstate. Kitten stayed far away from the roof of the car afterwards. Of course, this was the same cat who had the tip of his tail run over because he didn't move out of the driveway. I think he thought he could outstubborn a car until proved otherwise. He was a nice but very strange cat. Lived to a crotchety old 17.
