Poking head while crossing fingers that the network here holds for at least enough time to post this post:
So, again, the mostly-deadness of the network here (accompanied today by both an electricity break and a pipe exploding on the roof on top of my apartment), made me miss the birthday of a very wonderful Buffista indeed. According to the Buffista Calendar yesterday (the 22nd) was Laura's birthday. So, Laura, happy second-day-of-your-new-age! With lots of wishes for a wonderful year.
Also, if I'm able to post now, I'll be able to congratulate Lysana on time, since today is her birthday. Happy birthday!
And, um, timelies. Or something. I'm not sur eI even remember how to do this "posting" thing properly anymore, it's been so long since I've actually done it properly.
[Edit: excellent, it posted! It's so easy now, and was so completely impossible yesterday - crazy technology. And at least it seems like the birthday was not overlooked upon, so I'm glad my absence didn't reduce the amount of Laura's wishes by too much]
How is your father coming along, brenda?
Much better, thanks. There was a worrisome couple of days when he seemed to be having a lot of disorientation and aphasia (guess where I know that word from, Theo), but he seems to be on the mend. Considering that he's pretty much the poster child for Bad Surgical Risk, we're all pretty relieved.
Plus I got a new tv out of the deal, so hey.
Happy Laura [yester]Day!
Belated Happy Birthday, Laura!
Now you get two days to celebrate!
Laura, the rest of your birthday was nice, I hope? Did you apply some wine to that shoulder? I saw your quote of your ex's note to you. Hee!
It was low key since I was not feeling so hot. The boys had an 8PM basketball game, so going out wasn't really an option. After we got home DH went to the store and brought me home a steamed lobster and I opened the wine my friend brought me. I haven't been partaking lately because of the dreaded D word. Diet, not drunkard.
Not to worry Nilly. I brazenly solicited birthday wishes over in Bitches and was showered with them. We hate your Evil network that keeps you away.
Today I have to see if both my son and I can get into see the chiropractor because he is in agony. I need to drag dad along to discuss this whole sports thing. Brendon Jr. is the tallest kid on the basketball court (shocking, right) and the rougher kids tend to beat the crap out of him when the refs aren’t paying attention. DH tries to convince me that this is the way basketball is played, but I have major issues. Last night after getting tripped one of the kids stepped on his knee and he was so sore by the time he got home he had my husband carry him into the house. Trust me on this folks, a 13 year old boy does not let his father carry him unless he really hurts. I iced him for a while then slathered him with icy hot in bed. He is still and hobbling this morning.
I usually defer to DH in matters of sports because it is his thing. The kid is already going to the chiropractor twice a week for his growing pains and I can’t help but think that getting brutalized a couple times a week on the court is rather counterproductive. The season will be over in another month, but I don’t know if my nurturing heart can take much more.
Thanks for the wishes! And
Happy Birthday Lysana!
Happy Birthday, Lysana!!!
DH tries to convince me that this is the way basketball is played
Well yeah, but it seems to me that if DH has to carry your son into the house, then things have gone a bit too far.
That's was I'm saying. DH really didn't start playing until he was in high school, and in Nebraska where the kids weren't quite as rough as the big city kids. These kids are mean and think that taking out the opposing team's big kid is good sport. At this rate he won't get to play HS ball.
Hello there. Yesterday was a yucky day at work. It called for Burgers and beer with DH and Sue. that brought some perspective to life - work is not life, it's the time you spend with friends that brings us happiness.
I wore my Kick Ass Boots today to give me confidence. so far it's working.
Happy Birthday, Lysana!
And Laura, something is definitely wrong. There's no tripping in basketball.
Happy Birthday, Lysana
Much better, thanks. There was a worrisome couple of days when he seemed to be having a lot of disorientation and aphasia (guess where I know that word from, Theo), but he seems to be on the mend. Considering that he's pretty much the poster child for Bad Surgical Risk, we're all pretty relieved.
Did they ever determine the cause of the disorientation and aphasia, brenda? Where is he, now--home or rehab?
Laura, is there a way to address this with the officials? I am wimpy!mom, and like you, will be trying to defer to my more-athletic-than-I dh take the lead in this particular area with our kids (sons and daughter) because a good half of their sports games make me think, "They should stop and have some juice, and maybe a banana." But intentionally gunning for a kid to injure him, rather than accidentally injuring him, in the course of trying your hardest to get/block the ball, just seems way over the line for me.
Lobster and wine sounds like a perfectly lovely way to have a low-key birthday. I'm sorry the other stuff tried to muck it all up.
NillyNillyNilly. Hi Nilly!!!
