Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

Is there a copyeditor in the house?

Should "taser" be capitalized?

(I'm doing a resume for a police officer. Speaking of which, what's the difference between a rifle and a shotgun? My weapons expertise cuts out around 1815, so I'm only qualified to explain the difference between a rifle and a musket.)

Lee, FWIW, I liked the first apartment you linked to in Burlingame better. All those windows along the wall just tickled me. I like LOTS of light, though, and some people don't.

Also, Burlingame has a nice little central shopping district with very charming diners and gift stores. Sort of trapped in the 50's Pleasantville look. It just has a slow feel of a small town to it, but you're in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the Bay area.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Rifles are rifled. That is, there's spiral grooves in the barrel to give the projectile a stabilizing spin. Shotguns don't have that. They fire either a slug or shot (basicly a bunch of BBs, good for knocking down birds).

eta: Rifles have good long-distance accuracy. Shotguns don't. Shotguns are good for, say, blowing a huge hole in someone's chest at close range.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Susan, from looking at their web site, it seems to be TASER. At the very least, Taser.

Sumi -- not yet. I have it recorded, and will watch stat.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Kat was saying that Burlingame was nice as well, SailAweigh. I will definitely have to add it to my list of places to look.

Heh. That's exactly the difference between a rifle and a musket. I never would've guessed, because I just assumed that all modern weapons were rifled--the reason the musket hung on as a military weapon as long as it did was that until someone came up with a breech loading mechanism that would hold up under combat conditions, rifles were too slow to reload (the rifled barrel making the muzzle loading process slower than with a musket) to be practical weapons for an entire army, since in pitched battle rate of fire mattered more than accuracy. So I figured once that technical issue was solved and you could have speed AND accuracy, all guns were made that way.

Told you my expertise cuts off at 1815.

There are shotgun rifles, though. I think shotguns are still in use precisely because they don't have the speed or accuracy of the rifle -- so they're safer in the hands of civilians. You need to make modifications from standard shotgun issue to make them useful in combat scenarios.

The evil is this way?

I prefer landmines. No aiming necessary.

Heh. All the armed civilians I know (i.e. most of my male relatives) own rifles, that being the weapon of choice when your prey is a deer.

(Ack! Why am I interested in GUNS? Bad liberal!)

I can't even.

Okay, the Buffalo weatherguy is bragging about how the incoming storm is going to mostly hit east of them, and how they are only going to get a few inches of snow in the next few days. Somehow, this seems wrong to me.
