As another person who loses an unhealthy amount of weight when I'm depressed

I think you all know about my own issues with depression, so please know I'm not making light of anyone's depression here.

However, I'm always amused at the fact that I can be envious of someone else's depression, a la "Damn you! I gain weight when my depression is bad! I'd rather have *your* problem!"

I can't help laughing when I pull out the your-crazy-is-better-than-my-crazy schtick.

I actually have an essay that I'm working on titled, "My Boobs are Shrinking and Other Realities of Depression" that talks about all the fun "gifts with purchase" that come along with depression...like losing weight, gaining weight, etc. So, I get what you're saying Steph. I've actually had both weight loss and weight gain with my depression. I think mine has more to do with medication side effects than an actual symptoms of the depression...but who really knows.

I gain weight when my depression rears its ugly head, mostly because I can't be arsed to get out of bed, or move from the couch. So very little physical activity, certainly no exercising.

Combine that with the total inability to prepare meals for myself, which leads to ordering in -- pizza, Chinese, all full of starchy bloaty goodness -- or making multiple PB&J sandwiches, and you get insta-weight gain.

t edit I just counted backwards -- it's been a year and a half since I've had anything approximating a return of my bad depression. That's the longest uninterrupted time in probably 8 or 9 years. You have no idea how amazing that is to me.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Yay! Keep up the good work.

I have some idea....

I have a bit of an idea. That's wonderful, though. I'm so very happy for you. I'm going on two months, and I'm just thrilled.

Now tagless for your comfort.

I can't help laughing when I pull out the your-crazy-is-better-than-my-crazy schtick.

Heh. I used to do this all the time.

Sure I went over to the Dark Side, but just to pick up a few things.

Okay, I thought maybe putting it in context might make her come off better, but no. That is really what she said.

At least she was trying to be sneaky about it at first, right? Or it could be disturbing to know that your mother will try to keep this on your mind any way possible.

Please don't pee on it in displeasure.

JZ and I just had a fight about...compost. We probably shouldn't talk before we've had coffee.

This post has been edited to mess with ita's joke.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Composte? Hardly seems controversial. Unless you don't like it. In which case you're certifiable.
