So, the problem with Edward VII (or VIII) was that he was committing adultery and therefore couldn't be Defender of the Faith? And they are now saying that that isn't a problem for Charles because it just isn't, stop asking questions?
Oooh, I never did understand how Victoria ended up on the throne. Neat.
The Princess Aiko thing is very interesting in a glad I don't live there way. Is the Emperor of Japan more than a figurehead?
I wish I could remember the name of the Egyptian woman who had herself declared a man for purposes of being Pharoah. Her son obliterated her name from all the monuments he could when he took over (by violent coup, I believe), but I thought it was still in my brain.
vw, that's GREAT news! I think you should order more dvds now.
sj, when will your computer be hooked up? Tomorrow? Glad you're all moved, I'm sure it's a huge relief.
Too. Many. Meetings. I almost fell asleep in the last one.
Hi, everybody...through playing with my shiny objects now.

Yip.

You're thinnking of Hatshepsut.
Awesome news, vw!
Oh, and whoo-hoo VW!
I have LOTS of work to do and I'm not doing any of it. Yay me!
Yay!
I'm good. Thrilled to have some computer time, though I need sign off soon.
Thanks, everyone. I really feel like this is a huge step.
did anyone else hear the NPR story about the monarch of Japan?
I heard that too. It's fascinating, both because Japan is such a modern country iin some ways but has (overgeneralization alert!) such a traditional view of women, and because of the idea that she has to start now to prepare for the possibility she may be Empress in 40 years.
