Spike's Bitches 22: You've got Angel breath

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Newspaper Meara. Lots of stuff I wanted to share with various Buffistas

For billytea and Jen, a descripton of The Farallones by a local outsdoory writer. Calling it America's Galapagos is overstating the case, but it's still fascinating.

Check out this picture too.

For meara and I think Gloomcookie, A rave review for S2 of The L Word. (Medium spoilers in mid-article, but there is a spoiler alert.)

For Catholics, Vatican has excorcist shortage.

For Sunil and DXM and Jen and billytea and other science-heads...Isolating the Bug Love Pheronome. This is more fascinating for how they solved the problem of isolating the German Cockroach love pheronome than anything about the bugs. Cool science! Cyberpunk!

Always Anti-fascist!

Oh, Hec, were your ears burning this morning? I talked about you and my t-shirt over at The Waterfront Homicide List.

Did you share a picture of yourself wearing it?

I forgot! I had a newspaper meara for you too.

New Crip Power Movie gets excellent review. Two disabled friends, one with MD, the other with CP, have hijinks and romance and independent living. Also, Irish.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Update on the HR snafu -- they can't get ahold of the person who could approve a policy exception, but they can cover 50% of my March COBRA costs (which means I'm covered, but DH pays his own way). So it's not an ideal situation, but I'll take it.

Sounds like a great movie, Hec. Wonder how long before the prudish pickets show up.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

I do not belive in god. ( entity or entities )

I belive that the whole ( world) is greater than the sum of it parts ( life forms, enviorment, etc) I have some belief that loseing a life human , or a species diminishes the world.

My biggest problem with religions ( excluding those that feel they must impose thier viewpoints on me) is that goodness and behavoir seem to be directed from an outside source( god, fear of hell , or even karma). My ethics were taught to me. the real basic foundation is that you are good ( don't lie , cheat, steal, or hurt ) because it is right to be good. Most laws - are there to oil the works, keep things running smoothly. by laws I also include manners.

Culturally, I am christian. Holidays I celbrate , certain phrases I use, etc.

Never tell me I am immoral because I am not christian( or religious). My ethics are very high and under constant review. By me, the only person I have to live with all the time.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Well, that's something, Jessica.

I love that you can only detect cockroach pheromones with an actual cockroach antenna. There's something beautiful and elegant about that.

I was taught (in a Christian context) that this is the highest good and have seen no reason to revise it.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Yeah, for the ethical laws, I was always taught "This is good, therefore G-d said to do it," not "G-d said to do this, therefore it is good."

Trust my rage

In my family, I am pretty much the golden child with the smarts and all. The oldest child on my mother's side. The children on my dad's side are mostly in India and not as educated.

My husband's family is the same way. Most of the relatives back in Honduras are relatively poor and uneducated. BIL, very much their golden child, finshed his PhD mainly because it was expected of him. It brought him lots of anguish while he was finishing and now he works in a totally different area.

Luckily for DH, the military was strongly revered in the family and DH is an officer, so he sort of gets a pass on the whole super-education thing.
