On Fridays in Lent, [some] Catholics don't eat meat (beef, pork, poultry), but fish is allowed.
Nilly, since JZ is already vegetarian, she goes vegan (no cheese or dairy or eggs either) for Fridays during Lent. Basically, I make her a lot of black bean soup during this stretch.
Rick, I also spent a summer on my college's ground crew. However, I never had to do cockleburr removal. I did have to pull all those vines off the trees - which turned out to be poison oak, and I had to take steroids to get rid of that. Also, I got to mow the cemetary which was fun. I love cemetaries.
And, I love fresh, ripe, delicious, organic (not commercial) tomatoes. They dont' have to be grown in cemtaries, though. I have eaten apples from trees in cemetaries.
Dana, I'm sorry we stole your cool opera director.
Both of my cats come when called. They also come to the front door to greet me when I get home.
Mine, too, Lee. Well, except that I only have one cat. But, he comes when I call (either by name or kissy noises) and he comes with a hand gesture if he is in a line of sight. He also sits on a hand gesture.
I'm trying to find a church service to go to tomorrow, and it's a problem. I don't really have time to go into the city for a noon service, but I have class from 6-8 pm, which is the other typical time. Of course, randomly trying to remember church names around town is not the most methodical way to do this either....
Timelies!
Jesse, just google the name of the diocese you're in (the Archdiocese of New York or the Diocese of Brooklyn if you're in Brooklyn or Queens) and you can get a list of the parishes and mass schedules. Of course, I am making the assumption that you're Catholic.
I lucked out. The Cathedral of St. Matthew is 2 blocks up from the office. Noon mass is definitely doable for me.
Now, is anyone else hungry for fastnachts? I haven't had them on Shrove Tuesday in AGES....
Of course, I am making the assumption that you're Catholic.
Yeah, I'm not Catholic. I'm actually Baptist, and it's not like we "do" ashes, but I haven't been to church in a while, and Lent seems like a good time to try to get back in the swing. I did find a cool-looking Episcopalian church near school with a noon service I might try to go to. Then I could just go work at school. But, thanks!

Oh, look at that, you did. Bastards!
Jeeves generally comes if I call out "Kitty!" in a manner reminiscent of a "soooeeeeeEEE!" hog call. He also comes running if he hears sheets being unfurled over the bed. Make The Bed is his favorite game, ever. I have made him into the bed several times, and he thinks this is great fun.
On a couple of occasions I've yanked the blankets off the bed without checking and sent him flying.
Yeah, I'm not Catholic.
But, but....yeah. I got nothing. For some reason, when you mentioned getting smudged with ashes, it was imprinted on my feeble brain that you were Catholic.
Thanks, Gus! I was just going to edit in that link.

Hee. My dog used to do that - leap up onto the bed while I shook the sheet out overtop and lie very, very still until I flipped the sheet back up and she'd come leaping out looking very pleased with herself. Funny as hell.
