Compassionately intolerant

Speaking of Watergate and Nixon, I watched "The Pentagon Papers", an FX original, yesterday. James Spader as Daniel Ellsberg cracked me up. I worked with Daniel for a few years and seeing James doing a sexay scene in Saigon made me do the williedance. But it was interesting to see the multi-layers of conspiracy in our 'transparent' government of the people. [mirthless chuckle] DE has some stories to tell, I can tell ya...the flick did not capture his pugnacious spirit at all!

GS: If you had to choose between kicking evil in the head or the behind, which would you choose, and why? Minsc: I'm not sure I understand the question. I have two feet, do I not? You do not take a small plate when the feast of evil welcomes seconds.

I remember the Watergate trial. It was confusing, and I think it may have interferred with broadcasts of Wonderdog, so Nixon was in my bad books from the age of 4 on.

Do you mean "Underdog" or was this something else? I loved the former as a kid.

Speed of lightning, roar of thunder! Fighting all who rob or plunder!

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

[googles both]

Huh. You're right, it is "Underdog". I've been thinking of it as "Wonderdog" for 34 years.

I think I'll eventually figure out a way to blame Nixon for that, too.

Embrace the idea that we are the leaders we've been looking for. Grace Lee Boggs

Of to chemo #4. Ooh, look, there's a light at the end of the tunnel!

Yeah, Jen! I'm glad you're nearing the end and that you seem to be handling the treatment so (relatively) well. Keeping in mind, of course, that this light is NOT from trains or angels, just the daylight that indicates of the end of one time of your life.

I started using libkitty for email, and then used it for everything because I find it easy to remember and I like it. My own name is very uncommon (I never met anyone with the same name until a couple of years ago). I've thought about changing to my real name here. People who don't know me would probably think it was a board name anyway. Mostly, inertia keeps me libkitty. Since I use libkitty for everything, though, it would probably be more discreet to use my real name!

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

That's my first news event memory.

Mine was a moon landing. I'm not sure if it was THE moon landing, but it was one of the ones they broadcast.

Similar to the Waldorf salad?

Yes, but with wingnuts instead of walnuts.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

My first news event memory is the hostage situation in Iran. My grandpa really hated Jimmy Carter AND we watched the news at the dinner table...

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

First vague news memory was the 1972 Olympics--I have dim memories of Olga Korbut and the Israeli hostages. First definite news memory was Patty Hearst. Reading the transcripts of her taped messages to her father shocked me, because I couldn't imagine someone talking like that to her dad!

Huh. I don't remember my first news event memory. We were in Germany during Watergate, but I do remember hearing about it. Asked my dad why the President was resigning, and he growled, "Because he lied." I don't remember the first moon landing, but I was only two.

I certainly remember the Iran hostage crisis, but that wouldn't have been my first news memory.

Keeping in mind, of course, that this light is NOT from trains or angels, just the daylight that indicates of the end of one time of your life.

Bwah! Good point. Actually, I thought I was in Bitches for some reason when I posted that; I don't usually apprise the FF thread of my medical stuff. Ah, well.

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

First news I remember was Cuban missile crisis. The adults and kids were fairly calm about it, but all the teenagers in our neighborhood were all "we're gonna die! Oh dear god! we're gonna die".

My first news memory is JFK being assassinated, I was 6.5 and old enough to get the death part but too young to understand all of it, but I knew it was bad.
