So it's been pointed out that the average domestic gross of the Best Picture films this year at the time of their nomination is only $37.1 million.
And yet, no Serenity noms. sigh.
And now that I've made a topical comment, I must also confess my undying love for JZ's uncle...I don't have anyone cool like that related to me.

I wonder (but am too lazy to check) what their costs were. I mean, are these grosses truly on a level with Serenity?
Do you keep a movie in the theatre longer because the critics like it, even if it's not making its money back?
As for noms--I really liked the film, but I'm not sure, outside of technical categories (and that's just a vague proposal) it could be nominated.

Oh, no. That wasn't my point. I actually think "domestic gross" and "art" are generally almost diametrically opposed. Still, if a film can not be wildly popular and be considered for an Oscar....there's a certain film I'm thinking of. Not that I expected anything, anyway.

I know that Crash, Good Night, and Good Luck and Capote all cost around $7M, give or take. Brokeback was in the 15 range. Munich and Syriana cost boatloads more.
