Discussion of the Mutant Enemy series, Firefly, the ensuing movie Serenity, and other projects in that universe. Like the other show threads, anything broadcast in the US is fine; spoilers are verboten and will be deleted if found.

Bag the crypto. Say what is on your mind.

I wanna talk about fandom. It seems to me that there are different ... call them degrees ... of fandom. There are fans of the show, fans of the actors, fans of the writers, fans of the production (Zoic, costumes, ... whatever).

I think I am a fan of the 'Verse. Which is all about Joss. Make that "Mr. Joss Whedon".

"Sir."

And Tim.

"Sir Tim"

However, this was about degrees of fandom. All my manic behaviors related to Firefly have not gone away, behind Serenity. I have even sent money to some jackhole on the Internet (which was refunded!), on the off chance that it might make more 'Verse.

Joss and Tim might go on to other things. More power to them! The dollars there are shiny!

Here is my degree of fandom, though. I will be hanging out on my nearly-broken ship, with my posse of folks I have elected to call family.

Never fall in love with somebody you actually love.

I think the point of Firefly was being a heap of shit ship in rubbish circumstances with no real direction. Like the fandom of the show, as it happens.

Thankfully the Buffy fandom didn't resemble vampire killing. Well, as far as I know.

Like Kevin never staked a vamp.

As if.

Crap. I pour my feeble heart out on the Web and what do I get?

Bupkis.

You timing is bad, Gus. Everyone is out and about. We love your feeble heart, though.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

aurelia you make an important point, but you know, I'm worried for Raq. What if she's taken in by a celeb impersonator. Maybe we could run point for her, on this one?

I suppose I could take one for the team.

Nathan is more than welcome to give me one for the team. Go team!

I love the 'verse, and I am so happy to be able to spend time there whenever I want. The slight melancholy about its not being a longer story than it was is there when I visit sometimes, but I still love it, and it still makes me happy.

All is well that ends in pizza.

move out and draw fire

Yeah, I've been talking with my meatspace friends (I know, weird, huh?) now that I've finally seen Serenity, and it's clear that there are degrees of fandom. They are all fans, but one is just into the relationships (Zoe/Wash, Mal/Inara, Kaylee/Simon, Simon/Jayne...okay, she doesn't want to think about that last one). One is into the humor and the dark angry bad-ass protagonist. A couple love everything about it unquestioningly.

I'm close to that side, but I've never done anything unquestioningly, so I look like less of a fan I guess. Even though my Firefly love astounds me in its greatness.

But I think there are degrees of fans for everything. I own all the Buffy DVDs, watched it religiously when it was on, have a bunch of the other stuff (like the RPG) just coz it's Buffy, but wouldn't consider joining an internet community that was formed around BtVS...wait.
