'Just Rewards (2)'
Discussion of the Mutant Enemy series, Firefly, the ensuing movie Serenity, and other projects in that universe. Like the other show threads, anything broadcast in the US is fine; spoilers are verboten and will be deleted if found.

Thank you! That totally worked.
Oooh, thanks for the link, Kessie. I was having the hardest time figuring out how to get this to play!
*watches, dies laughing* I love our crew.
I would have hated Mal's guts if that scene had been left as it was.
I wondered if you were talking about what I thought you might be talking about. And you were.
I love it, personally. Micole mentioned it in one of her LJ posts about the movie, and it made sense, because otherwise, why would they have Book's body with them at the end to bury?
ETA: Unless it's a joke, actually. I can't really tell from the gag reel.
Not just the bit about Book's body but his words and attitude as a whole during that scene. From what others posted here earlier, it continues after the point of the flub in much the same vein. The scene in Serenity is painful, but we understand where Mal is coming from, how far he's been pushed, but the Mal in the original scene is unnecessarily cruel to his crew. Just the bit that was on the gag reel upset me and I knew it wasn't "canon". Had that occured officially, it would have likely changed some of my feelings about the movie.
Thought it was a joke, myself, on account of I could swear his next comment to Jewel had her crying turning into laughter. That and his next remark is almost certainly an ad-lib.
Mr. Broom, it's not a joke. Discussion of the original scene starts here: Kevin "Firefly 4: Also, we can kill you with our brains" Oct 21, 2005 4:04:51 pm PDT The funny in that bit on the gag reel was supposed to be the cartridge falling out of Mal's gun.
ETA: I didn't see Jewel laughing when I watched it last night. I saw Kaylee in horrified tears. I'll double-check again when I get home from work.
Kalshane, i think you're talking about a different scene than Mr. Broom.
Yep. Those are two different parts of the same scene. The real dark Mal that was being discussed early is later dialogue (right after Mal shoots the Alliance soldier) not the part in the gag reel where he telling them to put the bodies on the ship.
Well, I think the whole bit from Mal exiting the ship to us seeing Reavered-up Serenity as part of the same scene. The point I was trying to make was the part of that scene we see on the gag reel was bad enough. The tone set by the bit on the gag reel (and the discussion here) gave me a pretty good idea of how the scene would have played out, and the likely result is I would have ended up hating Mal.
