ok, so I am adding the as yet unwritten "do not discuss things from backchannel" etiquette point to the list of things to add to the etiquette page.
Just like we don't tell people when we block them, we don't bring up things from backchannel unless everyone involved in said backchannel agrees.
To address this in the most general sense: One does not repost private correspondence in a public arena. This is not a rule of etiquette specific to Buffistas, or LJ, or even the internet. I've been on mailing lists where forwarding mail offlist was a banning offense, even lists of 200+.
Aye. I emailed the fellow to ask him if he minded me bringing it up here. If he minds, I will apologise to him.
I should point out, by the way, I didn't actually mention the email. I very very vaguely mentioned the concept. I didn't accuse anybody of anything, nor did I label anybody rude. I also know the sender. I do not think there will be the remotest problem with the discussion of it.

Aside from the part where the people you want to discuss it with, don't want to discuss it?

If this were actually what had happened, it would also likely be illegal as a breach of copyright, although it doesn't look like this is exactly what happened. Um, 'cause I know everyone here cares deeply about copyright.
Poor Kevin, just seems to step on one toe after another here.
the copyright freak is going to another thread now...

FWIW, as someone who has (had) no idea what the what was, it wasn't Kevin's post that made it clear there was a backchannel kerfuffle. When you don't want or feel it's appropriate to respond to something, not responding is an option.

Correct. The thinking before posting rule disconnected in my head.
Browncoats,
SERENITY finished it's 4th week with a box office tally of $2,948,411. For its 4th week, it did $222,294, which was 47% off the previous week's total. SERENITY will cross the $3 million mark this weekend in Australia.
Not bad, considering there's only 20 million folks in Oz.
