Wow. That's what a post looks like when the Ambien starts kicking in. I should go to bed before more stream-of-consciousness posting causes me to tell you all WHAT I REALLY THINK OF YOU.
Firefly 4: Also, we can kill you with our brains
Discussion of the Mutant Enemy series, Firefly, the ensuing movie Serenity, and other projects in that universe. Like the other show threads, anything broadcast in the US is fine; spoilers are verboten and will be deleted if found.
The post was pretty lucid, Allyson. Or perhaps permasleepdep has me think it so.
I don't think the Browncoats as a whole are crazier than any other fandom, but from my purely selfish fannish POV, I find the crazy ones slightly more annoying, because they are harder for me to avoid in the wilds of the Internet, being focused as they are on the 'verse as a whole. The crazy Buffy fans tended to focus more on specific characters or relationships, so it was easy for me to avoid them just by avoiding anything dedicated to said characters or relationships.
Allyson is me, only a whole lot better with the words. And the whole being Allyson thing, I can't compare to that.
The OB is calm compared to the craxy reavers at the Universal board. The OBers have been there for three years and Allyson I count you as one of us whether you like it or not.
People will be excessive, there is nothing we can do about that.
We have a movie and I count that as a win.
We win.
Every fandom suffers from what a friend of mine calls "SignMyBoobism".Hee.
Could be worse. Could be kitten board craxy.
With the exception of three particular kitten posters I can remember but won't name, I don't think the extreme kittens were necessarily more craxy than the extreme browncoats.
- The kittens raised money for a charity which is trying to combat the suicide rate of gay teens.
- The browncoats are raising money for an ad in
- The kittens compiled a FAQ document.
- The browncoats are spending their money buying tickets for complete stranger.
- The kittens ended up locking down their board to members only.
- At least one of the Ff boards already is members only.
- The kittens bad-mouthed Joss, DeKnight, Marti, and Mutant Enemy, in general.
- The browncoats seem to be getting their craxy on with website columnists.
There was one kitten I remember who made a threat about Joss. That was scary, wrong, evil, and my guess is that a person who would do that, would have done that for something else, if the character of Tara had never been written off, or if there'd been no W/T, or no BtVS.
I've only seen Serenity once. And it was in May. I know, I'm a bad fan.
To be totally fair, though, I also haven't yet seen:
- A History of Violence
- Corpse Bride
- Wallace and Grommit
- The Constant Gardener
- Good Night, and Good Luck
- Proof
- The Squid and the Whale
- Everything is Illuminated
- Junebug
- Mad Hot Ballroom
- Grizzly Man
- March of the Penguins
I want to see all of these. I know I won't. Just not enough time/money. I'll be buying Serenity the second it comes out on DVD, and I just can't convince myself I really need to pay $10.75 to see it again right now, when I'm super busy and poor.
I seem to remember some kitten board members stalking Amber one afternoon...
# At least one of the Ff boards already is members only.
I remember a yahoo group that was locked to members only, claiming that a woman who worked for Mutant Enemy was angry at the OB and wanted them to break off into their own special group.
There was only one woman working for Mutant Enemy, the office only had four people, Joss, Chris, and their assistants.
She thought it was all pretty bizarre.
That's craxy.
