Of course, even if folks are going to see another movie at a multiplex theater, they could still buy tickets to "Serenity" and then just go into the particular theater that is showing the other film. This would boost the Serenity box office.
Isn't that kind of...cheating?
That LotR bit would have fit right in with the Serenity spoof, though. I was trying to remember it, for a minute. If you're still around, Theo, have you a link? Or, I suppose I could go threadsuck for it in LotR. That sounds suspiciously like work, though.
LotR as told by Princess Bride.
It was in the Movies thread.

I did that to send my dollars Christian Bale's way rather than Tom Cruise's this summer, but anything currently out that I want to see in lieu of Serenity should actually get my money for the ticket.

::innocent blink:: Which is why I would NEVER suggest that. ::innocent blink::
I know I saw discussion of putting the first nine minutes of
Serenity
on the web (although I petered out before a successful Nilly) but have you guys seen this?
I saw Serenity and then immediately fell ill with the flu. I blame Joss. Another viewing will come later in the week.
My all-time record was seeing a film 6 times, in the theatre, in one week. Please don't jeer...it was Untamed Heart. Okay. I was getting a divorce and was wicked, wicked depressed. Hearing Marissa Tomei say "Broken records and a baboon heart...pretty soon your gonna make me believe it," just killed me. And made me feel better at the same time.
Monday's US box office figures pretty much the same as last Monday, if you're interested:

Total domestic + foreign gross is just over half the production budget after 11 days. It's not setting any records, but it does appear that it's going to break even in a reasonable amount of time if fan interest is sustained.
