Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

At the very least, it doesn't tie itself to the movie.
Unlike "Can't stop the signal" -- it mightn't make sense unless you're a fan or have seen the movie, but at least it's more different.

It makes sense in the context of the ending, since the crew suddenly turns out to be interested in saving the universe. But the advertising, as I recall, pointed up the fact that they were space pirates. Or at least, I wish it had said that. Anyway, not so much Star Wars-esque freedom fighters as mercenaries.

- Hot girl who kicks lots of ass and has crazy powers.

- Explosions
- Bit in the trailer where techno-ish music provides a choreographed background to major ass-kicking of many opponents by super-cool hot girl
- Grittyish future - not Star Trek polished, if not Bladerunner-dark either.
- Powerful, no-morals nemesis guy.
- There is sex at the end
- Simple, basic morals: The Truth is Important vs. Love Conquers All
