Discussion of the Mutant Enemy series, Firefly, the ensuing movie Serenity, and other projects in that universe. Like the other show threads, anything broadcast in the US is fine; spoilers are verboten and will be deleted if found.

Am I right in thinking Serenity's only playing at one DC-area theater?

Ankh-Morpork Watchman, Dreamer, Scooby, Minister of Grace, Still Flyin' in a Zoo2 World

Seems to be playing at most of the big multiplexes in DC according to Fandango?

Thrive to spite them

Anyone watch this week's Bones on Fox? At the end of the ep, they announced that the series was going on hiatus until the end of baseball.

I think Fox is putting everything on hiatus. I know House is on hiatus until baseball is over. I guess they are doing a sort of scaled down version of what SCI FI does in the fall.

Yeah, I checked again. Looks like it was just that they weren't all listing it yet when I checked on Tuesday. Hmm, dilemma!

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Good review, the best I've seen yet -- but then Zacharek is admittedly a Firefly fan.

She had one interesting comment on why, despite how good she thought the movie was, she felt a little unsatisfied because watching SERENITY was akin to seeing a movie adaption of a novel she loved.

Thrive to spite them

I'm worried that's how I'm going to feel.

Solid positive review from Ebert: [link]

ETA, as these things probably will be, it's a bit spoilery.

"God...my brilliance is now becoming a bit of a burden...get back to me." Dr. Cox - Scrubs

....and as the calendar changes to September 30th, 2005....the world sucks just a little bit less than yesterday and most of them that came before it......

Almost 3 years later and Serenity flies again.

Someone get Webster's on the phone and ask if they can put a small picture of the movie poster next to the word REDEMPTION.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

It doesn't matter if it's spoilery -- all movie talk is allowed in here now.

What is even happening?

From Ebert:

River and Simon are soon enough allied with a team of free-lance smugglers on a banged-up old ship named Serenity. Malcolm (Nathan Fillion) is the captain, and his crew includes the pilot Wash (Alan Tudyk), his wife, Zoe (Gina Torres), the engineer Kaylee (Jewel Staite) and the tough guy Jayne (Adam Baldwin). On their trail is the most competent and feared of the Alliance's agents, The Operative (Chiwetel Ejiofor).

If he's listing Zoe third, and calling her Wash's wife, I'm having some more questions about the film.
