Firefly 4: Also, we can kill you with our brains

Discussion of the Mutant Enemy series, Firefly, the ensuing movie Serenity, and other projects in that universe. Like the other show threads, anything broadcast in the US is fine; spoilers are verboten and will be deleted if found.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

manzo, I'll add my voice to the "RotS sucked" refrain. If Ep I and II were worse than that, I can't even imagine the suckage. I've never walked out of a movie before. I even sat all the way through Blade:Trinity, which was a travesty. But my partner fell asleep five times during the first hour of RotS, and I was so bored I was actually talking back to the screen, which I never never never do in theaters. We gave up and left after the first hour. I'm saving my brain cells for Serenity.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

My SiL has never seen the original SW trilogy. She plans to see the whole series in numeric order. It'll be interesting to see how she responds. I'm afraid that 4-6 will seem very simple, with the very clear-cut good vs evil adventure story compared to 1-3.

In terms of continuity, the thing that bugged me most was Amidala's death. That so doesn't jive with the "do you remember your mother" conversation between Luke and Leia. I kept expecting to see her leaving for Alderaan with Bail Organa. She could've been weak and sickly... she only needed to live another 3-4 years for the continuity to work.

The droids don't bother me too much. Unnecessary pandering, yes, but at least the end of Ep3 addressed the continuity. I do wish Ep 3 hadn't dealt with wookies at all, much less Chewbacca. This may come from having read a number of SW books, but if Lucas is gonna license the damn things he should at least have someone to tell him how the planets are described .

Woe to the fucking wicked.

Right there with you: Wash would raise some damn good kids. As would Zoe. Simon's would have some issues, but be more or less ok. Hard to say with Kaylee. Book would raise you up some little Jedi right good. Jayne...oy.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I feel about the new trilogy the way I feel about the Lord of the Rings books. There's a great story in there somewhere, and I got peeks at it along the way. Lucky for me, Peter Jackson made movies that pulled out the LoTR story I wanted to see. I'm not sure what could do that for these movies, other than my imagination.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Jayne...oy.

He'd be so cute trying to raise a little girl.

I'd pity here, though.

So Simon and River are Luke and Leia?

Now I'm imagining Mal and River having twins with psychic powers.

Except River is Luke.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Isn't River supposed to be the smarter one?

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Waittaminnit. Book is.... Yoda?

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Except River is Luke.

Heh.

Vader: You have no idea of the power of the dark side.

Luke: Also, I can kill you with my brain.

eta:

or,

Vader: The hodgeberries are strong with this one.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Oh, good. I'm glad someone is trying this. I'm intensely curious as to which way will be a more effective viewing strategy, starting with 1 or starting with 4.
