Firefly 4: Also, we can kill you with our brains

Discussion of the Mutant Enemy series, Firefly, the ensuing movie Serenity, and other projects in that universe. Like the other show threads, anything broadcast in the US is fine; spoilers are verboten and will be deleted if found.

when i die, please bake my ashes into a brick and use me to hit fascists.

That is indeed high-larious! I didn't know you were allowed to do stuff like that at Ricks. Oh, excuse me, BYU-Idaho. (snicker)

Signed, grew up a Gentile in Mormon-land.

I might have watched that show about lightning bugs, but we don't have 'em in Idaho, so why would they live in outer space? Those FOX execs are smart cookies.

I bop to Wittgenstein. -- Nutty

Yeah, they post stuff on the like, the uh, what's it called, those phone computers.

Yes, you know what I mean. That newfangled stuff. I can't be doing with it.

Oh yeah, he writes that other show w/ the lesbian vampire slayer vampire lady. And then there was that one where the guy's an angel but then he has hair gel instead of wings. Those shows are silly though, I only watch realistic shows like ER. And reality TV shows, because, like, they're called "reality" so they must be, y'know, real.

They're a waste of time if you ask me; who wants to hear a story with magic in (and that hair gel must be magic, it wouldn't stay up like that with anything normal), for heaven's sake? There's no fun in something that isn't real. I like the proper television. A good soap opera, where everyone talks like real people, and they have family arguments just like mine, that's what I want. Or reality television, like you say. It's so interesting, to know how people would act if they were really shut in a house alone or abandoned on an island. And I don't believe this people say about it being 'set up'. The programming people say it's reality, so that must be true.

(this is so much fun, we're wandering off topic again... never mind)

"It's got to be the hair, Cotton. It's beautiful! Feathered and lethal. You just don't see it nowadays." Pepper Brooks - Dodgeball

Frankenbuddha - to my undying shame, I didn't know the Python connection, and I'm a fairly rabid Python fan. ....shame, shame, shame....

However, the GBiB opening band was the Fembots, which I'm pretty sure predated Austin Powers. Unless someone knows of something of Fembots from before 1984? In which case, more shame.

Una - yes, the whole BYU-Idaho thing is good for a cackle. Ugh. I think the original Ricks building burning down the night before it was due to be demolished was interesting. ;-D

I didn't know you were allowed to do stuff like that at Ricks.

I don't know about allowed. *smirk* Ricks is where I learned to drink (I was 18 for several months before the national law made the drinking age 21), smoke, and, um.....other stuff. Probably a bad idea to send me from a small town to the big city. All I can say is that my roommates were....influences on me.

Love that Firefly. Man is it cool.

Well, look at it this way, if you've never seen it before, that means there's a new episode of Monty Python out there for you. I'd call that a win.

Ahem. Yeah, how 'bout that Firefly.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Fembots were the creation of an evil scientist in an episode of The Six Million Dollar Man. I was so happy when Austin Powers used the term.

Damn. And I watched a lot of the Six Million Dollar Man, more shame....shame, shame, shame....

*ahem* Long term memory loss due to premature menopause. *ahem*

But, yay - unearthed Python!

If I remember correctly, part of the episode includes Gay Boys in Bondage presented as one of Gilliam's inimitable animations.

Thanks, good to know. Monty Python is one of those "gotta get on DVD" things. Been concentrating on the BtVS and Angel - only one more to go. Have the directorial catalogue of Tarantino and Rodriguez (yes, even Spy Kids, but we do have a 9 year old in the house), working on Christopher Guest and John Waters stuff....you know, the usual.

Conservative, n. A statesman who is enamored of existing evils, as distinguished from the Liberal, who wishes to replace them with others. -Bierce

Isn't that Python ep the Sir Philip Sydey/Superintendent Gaskill one?

I'm sure Mal has smuggled some porn at one point, so the episode is quite relevant to Firefly.

I wonder how Inara would have felt about that. Sexuality -- yay!? Or "Dude, my Guild is supposed to get a cut of each DVD sold -- you're affecting my benefits package here."
