Any great party/conference/meeting planner knows that the work may be coordinated by one, but is done by many, and spends a significant amount of time thanking those involved and letting others know about the hard work the whole group is doing. I love that when we all jump in to thank Allyson, her response is to mention the work of another. I have never been to one of Allyson's events, but I think that this is a sign of an expert organizer and a happy team. I've said it before, and others have done so much more eloquently, but I have never really been tempted by cons. They sound fun, and I might go if I lived in a major urban area and didn't have to travel, but they don't sound worth the travel to me. If Allyson did a Serenity party, I don't know if I would be able to make it, but I know that I would want to and would be willing to devote a fair amount of money to try to make it happen.

Discussion of the Mutant Enemy series, Firefly, the ensuing movie Serenity, and other projects in that universe. Like the other show threads, anything broadcast in the US is fine; spoilers are verboten and will be deleted if found.
I get a lot of undeserved credit, because I post a lot. Maya doesn't. So people think I'm doing everything.
Yes. Maya doth mightily ROCK. In context of my earlier post I was just trying to stay on topic with the "Allyson touch" thing that had been mentioned. :)

Word. Girl got class.
Actually, one of my Survival Tips For Life is "always pack presentable nightclothes". Because there WILL be fire drills in the hotel (especially at fannish events) and you might as well be prepared to socialize. My favorites are a pair of black silk pajamas: completely decent, yet chic.
At the first PBP I went to, the girls whose room I ended up in (I was so lucky that they would have me) had a costumed pajama party, where everyone had a character and their pajamas had to do with those characters. theredhood (Bronzer) had fabulous black pajamas and had drawn little anime Faiths all over the pants in glow-in-the-dark fabric paint.
I myself am a collector of pajamas. I believe you can never have too many.
Also, look what I got in the mail today, because I took advantage of the fast-shipping-for-the-screenings deal (despite my not going to a screening - I plan to wear it to HG2G this weekend):
Possibly I should've gotten a large instead of a medium.
I've been to 5 Bronze Posting Board Parties, Wizard World Chicago 2000 amd San Diego Comic Con last year. Cons and parties definitely each hold a different appeal for me. San Diego Comic Con was great. I saw a Smallville panel, Sin City Panel, Simpsons Panel and some others. Then there's the exhibitors and I got some giveaways as well. The cost was like $20-$25 for the day! If you're an entertainment junkie this was the place. The parties are more like getting together with friends to celebrate something you all enjoy. It's a totally different experience.
To me the type of event really is dictated by the size of attendance. At one point I was in favor of the Booster hybrid con/party experience because it seemed that the Buffy crowd had grown too big to accomodate everyone who wanted to go to a PBP and keep the show people the least accosted as possible. I still think that sort of hybrid event can be good even though I think the Booster people have gone way too overboard.
If type of event is dictated by the size of attendance, the size of attendance is dictated by the popularity of who people are attending are going there to see. Serenity is still a toddler. I don't think there will ever be an opportunity to attend a smallish Serenity event after the movie comes out. At the very least I hope people get together locally to see the movie opening weekend. It's been a long road for Firefly fans we deserve some kind of cumulating moment.

Heh. I first read that as "cromulating moment."

She really does. She's also incredibly nice and pretty damned cute.

I want a cromulating moment.
Was anyone at the con where Marsters tried that "you first" gambit with the fan who asked him to strip?
That was at Dragoncon during one of James' Q&A. I unfortunately, saw the whole thing.
Don't tell me she did.
Okay, we won't tell you. But what are the odds that people would remember it years later if she'd quietly said "Nevermind then," and sat back down?
When the people who run real fan conventions have the vision to book media guests in the short early period before Creation type cons get their hooks into them you find out how limited the Creation experience can be.
For example, would you rather have spent a weekend drinking at the hotel bar with Frakes and Dorn, or in lines at a Creation Con waiting for their autographs a year later?
Earlier this year I talked with someone who runs an upcoming con. He'd been offered as a possible Guest of Honor a certain writer-director whose name should be obvious in this forum without me typing it. He was asking everyone he knew whether anyone would attend a convention to see said guest...
Needless to say, this particular con got someone else, someone you'd have to Google.
