'Serenity'

Firefly 4: Also, we can kill you with our brains

Discussion of the Mutant Enemy series, Firefly, the ensuing movie Serenity, and other projects in that universe. Like the other show threads, anything broadcast in the US is fine; spoilers are verboten and will be deleted if found.

Matt, by boring we don't mean hijinks so much as there seem to be a disproportionate number of people in Nikita fandom who are batshit insane.

Oh, I was referencing insanity re: the after parties that I missed that year by throwing my own. Four years later people were cringing when they mentioned handcuffs and a giant furry purple dildo. Apparently there came a point in the evening when the sane people decided the time to flee had arrived.

Though some of them fled to Becker's Game of Death, so they chose alcohol poisoning in lieu of dishonor.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

One of the batshit fans bought a nightgown that Nikita had worn in the series. Then she went upstairs to her room, put it on, and came back down to the auction.

Then one of the cast members emceeing the auction pulled it down in back, and we all got a lovely view of her posterior. Because she had nothing on under it, of course.

Oh man. At least at the event I'm talking about the craziness was only witnessed by the occupants of a single hotel suite. So no more than 150, all told.

Was anyone at the con where Marsters tried that "you first" gambit with the fan who asked him to strip?

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Then she went upstairs to her room, put it on, and came back down to the auction.

Gah. Although, I do have to admit wearing Spike's Amulet while doing the dishes, once.

Also, all the nice things people are saying? You're making me feel really, really good.

Although, I realize that I'm being a complete jackass about the Boosters thing. To each.

I think we'll be done with the copying/paperwork/thank you cards by this weekend for the D:LA.

I think that when I'm planning the event, it begins months before, and ends months after. So it's like this ongoing thing, and always fresh in my mind.

Keep in mind that Maya did almost all of the logistical work involved. She did the contracts, got the sound and lighting done, ordered all the the linens, helped shop for decor, found the DJ, tarot card reader, made trips back and forth to Burbank to pick stuff up at the Writers' Office, hauled everything to the hotel, hauled it all back, and had an unfortunate incident with the delivery truck when picking up the polar bear.

She also took care of all registration issues.

I get a lot of undeserved credit, because I post a lot. Maya doesn't. So people think I'm doing everything. That's just not so. The stuff I handled with this party was relatively, well, nothing. Most of what I did involved a phone and sitting on my fat ass.

If I only had a brain...

No one was wearing anyone else's nightclothes, for instance.

Note to self: finish World's Froofiest Nightgown before RWA.

Actually, one of my Survival Tips For Life is "always pack presentable nightclothes". Because there WILL be fire drills in the hotel (especially at fannish events) and you might as well be prepared to socialize. My favorites are a pair of black silk pajamas: completely decent, yet chic.

Embrace the idea that we are the leaders we've been looking for. Grace Lee Boggs

Any great party/conference/meeting planner knows that the work may be coordinated by one, but is done by many, and spends a significant amount of time thanking those involved and letting others know about the hard work the whole group is doing. I love that when we all jump in to thank Allyson, her response is to mention the work of another. I have never been to one of Allyson's events, but I think that this is a sign of an expert organizer and a happy team. I've said it before, and others have done so much more eloquently, but I have never really been tempted by cons. They sound fun, and I might go if I lived in a major urban area and didn't have to travel, but they don't sound worth the travel to me. If Allyson did a Serenity party, I don't know if I would be able to make it, but I know that I would want to and would be willing to devote a fair amount of money to try to make it happen.

Yes. Maya doth mightily ROCK. In context of my earlier post I was just trying to stay on topic with the "Allyson touch" thing that had been mentioned. :)

I love that when we all jump in to thank Allyson, her response is to mention the work of another.

Word. Girl got class.

At the first PBP I went to, the girls whose room I ended up in (I was so lucky that they would have me) had a costumed pajama party, where everyone had a character and their pajamas had to do with those characters. theredhood (Bronzer) had fabulous black pajamas and had drawn little anime Faiths all over the pants in glow-in-the-dark fabric paint.

I myself am a collector of pajamas. I believe you can never have too many.

Also, look what I got in the mail today, because I took advantage of the fast-shipping-for-the-screenings deal (despite my not going to a screening - I plan to wear it to HG2G this weekend):

Possibly I should've gotten a large instead of a medium.
